Founded in 1997, SEK Budapest International School has been providing a student-centered education in preschool, primary and secondary school. The school belongs to the prestigous SEK International institution and since 2006 is also part of IES which was created to provide more effective service to SEK schools outside Spain and Latin America.
The curriculum is mainly based on the Hungarian National Curriculum from the age of 3 in preschool through 8 years of primary and 4 years of secondary school with an option of choosing the IB Diploma Programme in 11th grade.
With over 30 countries represented in our student body, SEK Budapest has developed its own community with an international perspective. With an experienced and caring faculty, we help develop students to become lifelong learners and global citizens.
We understand that selecting a school is an important and sometimes complex process, and our goal is to assist parents to ensure proper placement.
With over 30 countries represented in our student body, we are dedicated to offering a well-rounded curriculum that inspires a love of learning, empowering students to be better, and to reach their potential in academic achievement, performance, creativity and citizenship. Our teaching philosophy is student-centered, personalized education, cooperation between teachers and parents in harmony in serving student development. We honestly believe that caring, cooperating, and working hard together for the same goals will make our school community happy and motivated with high student results.
SEK Budapest Preschool, Primary School and Secondary School offers a curriculum in English and Hungarian with the intensive language program in Spanish as second language at all ages. There are three levels offered to our students aged 3 to 18 to help them develop the intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills to live, learn and work in a rapidly globalizing world. The school received the authorization as an IB World School in 2005 and since then has been offering the prestigious International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme for students in Grades 11-12. However for Hungarian speakers the Hungarian National Matura exam is also available.
We welcome visitors to our school during the school year upon prior booking because we believe it’s important for people to see our daily basis activities.

SEK Budapest’s Vision
The mission of SEK, of which the International Education Systems (IES) Group is a subdivision, has been refined over more than one hundred years by parent, teacher and student contributions. It states:
The student and his or her world provide the context for all activity and learning within the organization which, in turn, respects each student as an individual, looks to discover and encourage his or her personal abilities, and work to ensure their full development; the SEK International Organization educates in and for freedom. It accepts the challenges that this creates and exerts each student to take responsibility for his or her actions; the SEK International Organization does not discriminate on grounds of nationality, gender, race, creed or religion; the SEK International Organization promotes a sense of community in its students. It values work as an essential factor in the growth and self-esteem of each person, and as a socializing process rather than one leading to rivalry and ambition; the SEK International Organization, embracing the principles of humanism, is open to all learning experiences, which lead to the achievement of its goals.
We are an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School for the Diploma Program. The philosophy of the school springs from a firm belief in the need to teach our children respect for themselves, others and the academic process as well as to develop their self-confidence and self-reliance, thus enabling them to become productive world citizens. The school believes that education should promote “learning to learn, learning to do, learning to be, and learning to live together.” Our focus is to provide a context for the development of each student’s social and emotional intelligence. In so doing, we support our students in reaching their own understanding of the value of learning and the development of academic skills which will enable them to be successful and gain qualifications necessary for a productive and successful life.
