Cheltenham Muscat Music Department's Chorus Rings its Way to Kuala Lumpur

Cheltenham Muscat recently visited Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with a group of 25 students and four members of staff to take part in the opening celebrations of its twin school, Cheltenham Kuala Lumpur. Organised by the school’s Music Department, the week-long visit, which took place in June 2026, combined musical performances with cultural and sporting experiences, providing students with the opportunity to represent their school on an international stage while strengthening connections across the wider Cheltenham family.

As part of the celebrations, students performed two concerts featuring choral music and solo performances in the school’s new theatre. The performances brought together students, staff and families from both school communities, celebrating the opening of Cheltenham Kuala Lumpur while showcasing the musical talent and confidence of Cheltenham Muscat’s pupils. The visit also provided an opportunity for students from both schools to connect, exchange experiences and build friendships across cultures.

Beyond the performances, students explored some of Malaysia’s most iconic landmarks, including the Petronas Towers and Batu Caves, while also taking part in day trips to Malacca and the Tengku Hassanal Nature Reserve. The programme also included a friendly netball match against local club Sporty Girls KL, giving students another opportunity to represent their school through sport. The visit concluded with a trip to Sunway Lagoon and a celebration gala dinner, bringing an unforgettable week of learning and shared experiences to a close.

Reflecting on the visit, Mr Richard Snape, Principal of Cheltenham Muscat, said: “This visit was a wonderful opportunity for our students to celebrate the opening of Cheltenham Kuala Lumpur while showcasing their musical talents and representing our school community. Experiences like these allow students to broaden their horizons, build confidence and develop meaningful connections across cultures, complementing the learning that takes place every day in the classroom. We are incredibly proud of the way our students represented Cheltenham Muscat throughout the visit.”

The visiting group included students aged between 10 and 14, representing 12 different nationalities and reflecting Cheltenham Muscat’s diverse international community. Through music, sport and cultural exchange, the visit supported the school’s commitment to developing confident, globally minded learners while strengthening collaboration, communication and cultural understanding beyond the classroom.
