From Foundation Stage to University: Arbor Celebrates Its First Graduating Cohort

Arbor School has celebrated a significant milestone in its history with the graduation of its first Year 13 cohort, marking the culmination of a journey that began when the school first opened its doors in 2018.

For the 26 students graduating this summer, the occasion represented far more than the end of Sixth Form. It was a moment to reflect on years of growth, achievement and contribution to a school community they have helped shape.

Collectively, the Class of 2026 received more than 200 university offers from institutions across 16 countries and secured over AED 27.5 million in scholarships. Their destinations span a wide range of disciplines and pathways, reflecting the diverse interests, ambitions and strengths of the cohort.

While these outcomes are a source of pride, Arbor believes they tell only part of the story.

At its core, the school’s approach has always been about supporting young people to discover who they are, what matters to them and how they can contribute positively to the world around them.

Throughout their time at Arbor, students have been encouraged to pursue academic excellence while also engaging with experiences that extend beyond traditional classroom learning. Through opportunities such as Duke of Edinburgh expeditions, student leadership programmes, environmental initiatives, work placements, performances and community projects, students have developed the skills and self-awareness needed to navigate life beyond school.

This philosophy is reflected throughout the school’s Sixth Form experience. Alongside A Levels, BTEC pathways and the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), students benefit from Arbor’s Futures Programme, which supports university applications, career exploration and personal development.

The impact of this approach could be seen throughout the graduation ceremony, held at the Serdaal Ballroom at The Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi Beach Resort & Marina. Alongside recognising academic achievement, the evening celebrated character, leadership, resilience and service to others.

Special awards recognised students who had made an outstanding contribution to the school community. Marko Pavlovich received The Heart of Arbor Award for exceptional kindness and care for others, while Katie Keeshan was presented with The Principal’s Award, Arbor’s highest individual honour, recognising outstanding achievement, leadership and contribution across all aspects of school life. Other award recipients included Omar Mirza (The Arbor Legacy Award), Helena Smith (Enough for All, Forever Award), Sana Kader Aga (The Pioneer Award) and Anna Thompson (The Darwin Award).

Speaking at the ceremony, Principal Gemma Thornley reflected on the significance of the occasion and the legacy the students leave behind.

“As Arbor’s first graduating class, you have had no blueprint,” she told students. “You have helped shape traditions that did not yet exist. You have tested ideas. You have challenged us. You have left fingerprints all over Arbor.”

For families considering schools today, the graduation of Arbor’s first cohort provides an important proof point. It demonstrates not only where students can go after Sixth Form, but the kind of young adults they become along the way.

As these graduates begin the next chapter of their journeys, they leave behind a legacy that will continue to shape Arbor for years to come – and provide inspiration for the generations of students who follow.
