Job Summary
The appointment, in the academic framework of ULB, is made at the rank of “First assistant” if the candidate has a PhD for less than eight years. If the candidate has a PhD for more than eight years, the appointment is made to the rank of Lecturer. Members of the academic body are entitled to wear the title of professor.
Depending on the career path of the successful candidate, the hiring will be either permanent or temporary (for a total of maximum 5 consecutive years). The Free University of Brussels recruits, in the full-time academic staff of the Faculty of Medicine, a high-level teacher-researcher. The teaching duties linked to the job are in the field of histology and dedicated to students in Medical and Biomedical Sciences.
Qualifications Required
PhD in Medical Sciences, Veterinary Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Biological Sciences or equivalent.
Skills Required
- You obtained your PhD since at least 4 years at the time of hiring.
- You can report post-doctoral experience and an excellent scientific record.
- Organizational and team management skills: the candidate must demonstrate strong motivation and be able to demonstrate his/her ability to teach and lead a research team.
- Internationally recognized experience in the proposed research area
- Significant experience in morphological sciences, its different aspects (optical, electronic, confocal microscopy, immunodetection…) and its developments.
- Experience in supervising Master students, doctoral theses as well as post-doctoral researchers
- Ability to obtain funding from competitive sources
- A medical training allowing good integration of the teached courses in the cursus of Medical and Biomedical students would be an advantage. Prior teaching experience is desired.
- Mobility through different institutions during your PhD or after will be taken positively into account.
- An excellent knowledge of spoken and written French (level C1) is required at the start of employment. If you do not speak French fluently (level C1), you may be given an adaptation period, but you must be able to teach in French by the end of the third year following your appointment.

- A Curriculum vitae, including a list of publications (a standard outline can be downloaded via the website).
- Certificates of previous positions justifying 4 years of post-doctoral experience.
- A research report of around 7000 characters (or 4 pages) on research activities and a research project, including the planned integration into ULB research teams.
- A teaching report of approximately 7000 signs (or 4 pages) on previous teaching activities and a teaching project for the first 5 years of the mandate, and its integration into the Medical and Biomedical bachelor program.
- A report on international projects and achievements (4 pages maximum).
- The names and contact email addresses of five reference persons likely to be contacted by the bodies responsible for evaluating the files, ensuring gender balance. These people cannot be in a conflict of interest because of family or personal ties.
