At Adderley Primary School we believe that children thrive in an environment in which they are happy, challenged and secure. We aim to provide the best primary education in a stimulating and creative environment, so that every child realises his or her potential. We will instill a love of learning inspired by quality first teaching, nurturing and developing individual strengths and talents. We will encourage and celebrate creativity, original thinking and imagination as well as effort and achievement . We will teach the importance of moral values and consideration of others.
Our children, when they leave us at year 6 will be confident, collaborative and independent young people ready to succeed and enjoy the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead of them. Our overarching aim is to prepare all of our children with the knowledge, skills and values they will need to play their part as responsible citizens within the communities in which they live and learn.
At Adderley Primary School, we are committed to equality of opportunity in line with the Equality Act 2010. We shall endeavour to make a positive contribution to society by demonstrating qualities such as respect, co-operation and valuing differences while celebrating cultural diversity. This commitment applies to our work in the classroom, our pupil support systems, our recruitment and retention of staff and our work in the local and wider community.
At Adderley Primary School we are committed to ensuring that all children become independent learners and reach their full potential. We aim to identify children’s individual and specific areas of need early and make provision to support them and remove any barrier to learning.
At Adderley, we recognise creativity as a practical skill, one which can be taught and which everyone can achieve. It is a way of thinking in which we look at familiar things with a fresh eye, examine a problem with an open mind about how it might be solved, and use our imagination rather than our knowledge to explore new possibilities rather than established approaches.
Our creative curriculum ensures full pupil entitlement to the National Curriculum. Moreover, learning is enhanced through an enquiry-led model and frequent enrichment opportunities.Hence, our pupil engagement is high and there is a real buzz and positive attitudes to learning when walking into classrooms! The focus on making learning relevant and meaningful incorporates practical experiences for our children, using both the local environment and further afield. Teachers plan a memorable experience to kick-start each unit of work. This may be an educational visit, a visiting speaker or an immersion day where children discover and explore their new learning.
We believe children learn better when they are encouraged to use their imagination and apply their learning to engaging contexts. Our new curriculum provides lots of learning challenges throughout the academic year that requires children to solve problems, apply themselves creatively and express their knowledge and understanding effectively across the curriculum.
At Adderley Primary School we are dedicated to promoting values which ensure our pupils develop a strong sense of social and moral responsibility which will prepare them for life in modern Britain. Our ethos at Adderley is based on mutual respect and good manners. Adults actively model respect with one another, and with the children, in how we speak and treat one another. Our school is a diverse community and, through our creative curriculum, we promote an awareness of different faiths and we encourage our pupils to recognise and understand these faiths. Our pupils naturally show tolerance for others and have a curiosity to find out and understand cultures and faiths that are different from their own. Our children visit all the main places of worship in and around Birmingham. All staff model a tolerant and accepting attitude. We use assemblies to raise and discuss issues of bullying and prejudice and reinforce learning during curriculum time.
At Adderley School, we will actively challenge pupils, parents or staff who express opinions contrary to fundamental British Values, including extremist views. Adderley is currently working towards becoming a UNICEF Rights Respecting School.
