Vesalius College, the Global Affairs undergraduate and graduate College affiliated with the Free University of Brussels (VUB), is looking to expand its academic offering. In that regard, the College seeks a dedicated and passionate Adjunct Professor to teach EU Law of the Internal Market (LAW322G), an undergraduate course in the International and European Law Department. This advanced course provides a systematic analysis of the internal market and focuses on the four freedoms, namely the free movement of goods (including custom duties and taxation, quantitative restrictions and similar measures), the free movement of services (including the freedom of establishment), the freedom of movement of people (including the Schengen Area) and the free movement of capital (including monetary union). Related topics will also include EU citizenship, fundamental rights, harmonisation of legislation and redress mechanisms. The implications of Brexit are also touched upon.
The course will be taught during the Spring semester, which runs for 7 weeks. The course consists of 4 teaching hours per week plus one office hour per week. The contracts are on a self-employed basis. This opportunity is therefore ideal for beginning postdoctoral researchers seeking to expand their teaching skills, as well as academic professionals who would like to maintain a link to a university, and who would like to share their insights with young and motivated students within a strong multicultural environment.
In 1987, Vesalius College (VeCo) opened its doors as an exciting new English-speaking undergraduate institution, run by a Dutch-speaking university – the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) – with Boston University (BU) as a founding partner. VeCo’s academic and cultural DNA was firmly established with its key dominant traits: Belgian, American, cosmopolitan, liberal arts, free thinking. These roots have continued to form the foundation of the College’s mission, academic and institutional culture, and student life.
