AWIS is a British-managed international school in north Doha, close to Qatar University, the Lagoon, and Doha Golf Club. We offer a UK-style education to children aged 3 – 11 drawn from over 50 nationalities. No single nationality makes up more than 19% of the student body, so we offer a truly diverse environment where children from all parts of the world can feel at home.
The ethos of AWIS is to create an enjoyable, open and collaborative environment where children, their families and staff feel secure, valued, confident and independent. We work closely with our parents to forge a strong home/school relationship through effective communication to ensure the needs of students are consistently met. Our vision is to nurture and empower successful global leaders through inspired learning.
Learning at AWIS is underpinned by a strong sense of purpose. This is guided by three simple observations:
Our curriculum learns from and develops upon best practice in teaching methods and curriculum development from around the world. Considerable progress has been made in recent years on how children learn. Work in areas such as multiple intelligences, emotional involvement, left brain / right brain learning etc. have created new opportunities to develop dynamic and effective learning environments.
We teach Arabic language to all students, whether Qatari or foreign. Teaching is streamed according to Arabic language ability, ensuring Qatari students are taught the above in Arabic while non-Arabs are taught separately in English. Qatari history and culture are taught to all students.
At AWIS we strive to develop a welcoming environment, catering to the needs and valuing the opinions of the school community. Parent perception of AWIS can be evidenced on the school’s Facebook page where the following words reoccur: friendly, open, caring, lovely environment, great teachers. Student welfare permeates all that we do. We strongly believe that children should feel cared for and care about each other. Students who feel happy, secure and respected learn more effectively. The IPC Personal Learning Goals help promote character traits such as morality, resilience and respect which enhance student well-being. A positive behaviour policy with a programme of rewards and clear steps for negative behaviour also supports all students.
Schools should support students to develop not just academically but physically, socially and emotionally. As part of our holistic, child-centred approach we acknowledge the importance of extra-curricular activities. These are integrated into the school timetable and are driven by our educational goals. Teaching staff plan and deliver a series of activities on a rotational programme. This ensures all students from Years 1-6 experience a cycle of 5 different kinds of activity over a yearly programme. These include fitness, arts, music and drama, problem solving and games activities.

My two boys studied in AWIS during only two terms, and it was a wonderful time for them. They only left the school because we had to return to our country. The teachers were very kind and helpful to them once they were not English spoken native. The school is small, and this creates a home environment for the kids. I genuinely recommend AWIS.

The quality of core curriculum and the individual attention given to students is quite exemplary. The welcoming and accommodating approach from teachers and support staff is encouraging for the children to pursue extra-curricular activities together with their study materials. There is always focus on the overall development of the students in all aspects, encouraging an interactive learning style for the kids rather than sticking only to the assessment oriented coaching methods. Highly recommended for the kids to get some quality exposure par international standards and give them all crucial head start to shape up their life.

I have so many worm feelings to AWIS. This school has everything what’s need to be one of the greatest schools. First of all it is absolutely incredible team of teachers and assistants. Our amazing teacher Ms Ellis is super professional and talented. I could never imagine that it is possible to keep whole group of kids in such a friendly relationship. Secondly- the progress that my daughter made in AWIS is amazing. Kids really study there and you can see it very clearly. You always can hear a hundred stories from your child about what they do. And as well weekly we are receiving plan for week. Third thing that school is very good organized the routine. And last what I would mention that how it is great to see every day happy, friendly and smiling team of AWIS. Kids are always happy and excited there.

My son goes to AWIS and we are really happy with this school. The education level is very high, teachers extremely supportive and the community of parents great. They also did an excellent job incorporating online/blended learning during those difficult times. I would recommend AWIS to anyone who's looking for a British curriculum primary school in Doha for their children.
