Amanzimtoti High School is a community-driven school in the truest sense of the word. With a dedicated staff and governing body second to none we strive for the upliftment and development of our youth. As a school we believe that incremental progress is but postponed perfection, so we are therefore dedicated to continually evolve as to provide our learners with a challenging and stimulating environment where each learner has the opportunity to realise their potential in class, the sports arena or in the many cultural activities on offer.
Our easily accessible campus is located in safe surroundings offering an attractive setting including panoramic sea views. The school traditionally serves the area of Kingsburgh and Amanzimtoti.
Over the years we have focused on creating a caring, friendly environment that is intended to promote the development of the individual. As a small school with a caring staff we are able to get to know learners as individuals, not as numbers. With this approach we are able to identify each learner’s strengths early in their formative years and then provide guidance to enable them to proceed in the direction best suited to their affinities and aptitudes.
All learners, therefore, are given the opportunity to find their own niche and to excel in the field of their choice. Our school badge sums up our philosophy to education: a healthy balance between endeavour both inside and outside the classroom secure in the knowledge that nothing can be achieved without effort.
English assists learners immensely with understanding and interpreting the world around them. We study a variety of literary genres which equip learners with critical thinking skills which is so crucial for tertiary education and the working world.
The subjectivity of the English language allows learners to participate interactively in lessons hence creating a dynamic learning environment.
The teaching and learning of English accommodates the multicultural composition of classes. Our grades 10-12 language textbooks are funded by a company from Scotland. These books aim to bridge the gap between English Home Language and English First Additional Language. The content of these books is contemporary and very engaging to learners who may find English challenging.
English as a subject is required for most careers, both locally and abroad. Our educators aim to nurture a love for English by being well-versed and dynamic with regards to subject knowledge and using a of a variety of teaching methods in the classroom.
We firmly believe that as an English Home Language school, we need to maintain a strong culture of reading. The value of reading cannot be over-emphasised and our learners are fortunate enough to have access to our library which is well-stocked with a wide range of lovely books to choose from. Our English team comprises of nine suitably qualified educators. Extra English lessons are offered from a Monday to Thursday at no extra costs. Our top learner for English in 2017 was Jarryd Govender who received 85% in the NSC exams.
Academic study is a priority at our school and it forms the core the High School experience. We pride ourselves on our academic results here at AHS. All students are encouraged and supported by our highly qualified and experienced staff to achieve the best results possible.
At AHS we take our cultural activities very seriously. Our students can choose from many options and are trained, and supported by passionate.
