As the GTA’s community Jewish high school, TanenbaumCHAT fulfills a unique role. Through rigorous General and Jewish Studies curricula, and extensive extra-curricular programming, we provide an exciting and extensive educational experience. Guided by our Jewish values, we develop students’ intellectual curiosity, challenge them to live lives of high moral character, connect them to their Jewish roots, the Jewish community and the State of Israel, and help them discover a meaningful way to contribute to the world around them.

We embrace the diverse backgrounds of our families and are committed to creating an environment in which all our students have the opportunity to thrive. We welcome students from Jewish day schools and from many public and independent schools. For decades, our tailor-made New Stream program has also offered an opportunity to those with little to no previous Jewish education to engage in Jewish learning

We prepare students to attend the finest post-secondary institutions and to succeed in whatever their chosen path may be. Our graduates join a distinguished network of more than 8,000 alumni who are making an impact in Toronto and across the globe. For almost 60 years, TanenbaumCHAT has delivered a premier Jewish education and played a significant part in shaping Toronto’s Jewish world. The school is grateful for the generosity of the entire community which sustains this landmark institution.

Here at TanenbaumCHAT, our goal is to prepare our students to make a positive impact on our community. Just as Rabbi Shimon believed that the world rests upon 3 basic pillars – Torah, worship, and acts of loving kindness, we believe that a successful student experience rests upon three basic building blocks: knowledge, active student life, and community service.

When a student joins our school, they forge the next link in the chain of Jewish tradition dating back thousands of years. Each one becomes, as well, a part of the proud almost 60-year history of our school. TanenbaumCHAT takes pride in the role we play in developing the next generation of Jewish leaders. Our more than 8,000 alumni have benefited greatly from the broad range of curricular and extra-curricular programming we offer; a dedicated, talented and passionate staff; and a wide array of sports teams, arts programs and Jewish experiences. Browse our course calendar and look through this web site to see some of the many programs we offer!

If you love music, check out our music program, with choral group, concert and symphonic bands that play at their own events and enhance many others. If drama is your thing, you’ll love our four-year program in dramatic arts, underground play and school musical. For the athletes, we field over 20 competitive sports teams ranging from baseball to volleyball, to, of course, ice hockey. If you want to participate at a less competitive level, we run a variety of intra-murals throughout the year. There is a virtually limitless range of clubs and committees available to students and it is so easy to start a new one! Shabbatonim, engagement with Israel, discussion of Jewish identity, and the perpetuation of our heritage are essential to our program.

We are also a community, dedicated to tikkun olam – repairing the world, helping others and performing acts of chessed. We believe that we are stronger when we are united in support of one another, whether within school, the local, national, or international community.

At TanenbaumCHAT, we offer more than an exceptional academic education. We give students the skills, knowledge and experiences to lead exceptional lives rooted in a strong Jewish identity. We strive to be a school of excellence and a school of significance. We are a school animated by a set of transcendent beliefs - that school is not about marks, but about learning; that we achieve our mission when we embrace the Jewish character of our mandate, and that we fulfill our potential as human beings when we reach beyond ourselves and contribute to the world around us.

Guided by our Jewish values, we are dedicated to developing students’ intellectual curiosity, challenging them to live lives of high moral character, deepening their connection to their Jewish roots, connecting them to the Jewish community in all its diversity and the State of Israel in all its beautiful complexity, and helping them discover a meaningful way to contribute to the world around them. The mission of TanenbaumCHAT is to challenge, support, and prepare students to live lives of high moral character, intellectual curiosity, Jewish commitment, and civic duty.
