Here at the college we strive to make certain that our young people have the very best of academic teaching and also have the best opportunities to be part of many of what the college offers as an extended curriculum.

We have been so impressed with the amount of time, effort and commitment that so many of our young people have shown recently with their commitment to the arts, sport and public speaking. They are truly an amazing group of people and the college community salutes all their endeavours.

But time for our students means that they need to be using it well in preparation for the coming examinations.

“Only the Best will do” - we promote the best traditional Christian values, whilst providing a safe, secure and supportive environment for the young people in our care. We will look after and support each other, recognising the worth and achievement of all, realising at the same time our own self worth.

We will create an atmosphere which promotes high standards of behaviour, based on mutual respect and a community in which everyone is valued and feels safe, secure and happy.

Our curriculum is designed to ensure everyone reaches full potential and we take as our inspiration the teachings of Jesus.

The curriculum at Archbishop Beck has changed greatly over the past few years in order to prepare our pupils for the demands of the Modern World and to ensure that all pupils can achieve their potential. Our main philosophy is that students are able to access a curriculum that allows them to achieve through a largely 'personalised curriculum'. Literacy and numeracy skills have a high profile throughout the key stages.

Through our curriculum we aim to create successful learners, confident individuals and responsible citizens.

Year 7 students are placed in subject sets according to the assessment data received from the primary schools. We continually review the performance of all students through an annual programme of assessments to ensure that all students are in a position to achieve their targets.

Students follow the National Curriculum with an emphasis on literacy. This means that students in year 7 study six lessons of English each week. We believe that by developing excellent literacy skills, our students will be able to access all aspects of the curriculum. We recognise that in order to achieve academic excellence, students must be able to read, interpret and present information in a variety of ways to a very high standard.

In year 8 students continue to follow the National curriculum subjects. Some students are given the opportunity to study an additional language to further develop their linguistic skills. English and maths continue to be studied daily and in science some students will begin to focus on the individual sciences, physics, chemistry and biology.

At the end of year 8 students undertake a formal option process. Students are placed in pathways that are influenced by their potential and prior attainment. The advice process involves students, parents, staff and outside agencies.

In Years 9, 10 & 11 students study a core curriculum and a set of option subjects that enable all students to reach their full potential. The curriculum aims to support our students to become independent, confident and dynamic learners.

Here at Archbishop Beck Catholic Sports College we set our standards high. Our aim is to equip our students with the skills, qualifications and work experience to ensure success at University and in future career choices.

We are extremely proud of our academic achievements and are members of a very elite group with a 100% pass rate at both A Level and BTEC National. Our students are highly motivated and very much enjoy their experience here in the Sixth Form.

Our fully wireless, purpose-built Sixth Form Zone is well equipped with new classroom facilities, extensive ICT equipment, large independent study areas and student leisure facilities to enhance their Sixth Form experience.
