Job Summary

The School of Law and Government intends to appoint a new Assistant Professor in in Law, on a permanent contract. We especially welcome applicants with a strong international research profile.

Skills and Experience

  • Applicants for the position must hold an honours degree and should have completed
    or submitted a PhD.
  • The successful candidate will have experience of university teaching at lecturer/assistant professor level on a full-time basis.
  • Current teaching requirements include subjects such as data protection law, company and commercial law, the law of real property, intellectual property, contract, and trusts.
  • The successful candidate will be able to convincingly demonstrate a strong commitment to academic research and should have a track-record of international peer-reviewed publications.
  • The successful candidate should be capable of working in a team and contributing to developing the teaching and research agenda within the School, as well as supporting the School’s fund-raising activities through grant applications.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Teaching and Learning

The successful candidate will be required to contribute to the development, teaching, and assessment and administration across a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes:

  • To include module design and delivery,
  • Supporting and evaluating students on placements visits and writing reports,
  • Contributing to the design, development, and management of future programmes and other developments in the field of law,
  • Supervising undergraduate and postgraduate theses, and
  • Contribute to the wider teaching of the School as required by the Head.

Research and Scholarship

The successful candidate will be committed to high-quality research and publication in the
field of law on an individual and a collaborative basis. The successful candidate will be
expected to:

  • Publish articles in leading peer-review journals and/or books with high-profile publishers;
  • Develop and support research initiatives with the School Law and Government and the wider university;
  • Apply for grants to contribute to the School’s research agenda; and
  • Attract and supervise high-calibre PhD students.

Service and Contribution to University and Society

Activities taken on the successful candidate’s own initiative, or allocated by the Head of
School, may include:

  • Engaging with policy-makers and the media,
  • Contributing to law reform,
  • Participating in school and university meetings,
  • Representing the School in marketing and the recruitment of students,
  • Developing relationships with stakeholders within and outside the University.

Mandatory training:

The postholder will be required to undertake the following mandatory compliance training: Orientation, Health & Safety, and Data Protection (GDPR). Other training may need to be undertaken when appropriate. About Company

Dublin City University is a university situated on the Northside of Dublin in Ireland. Created as the National Institute for Higher Education, Dublin, it enrolled its first students in 1980 and was elevated to university status in 1989 by statute.
