Job Summary
The duties and responsibilities associated with this post are described under three sections:
Teaching, Research and Administration.
Teaching
- The post holder is expected to contribute to development, design, delivery and
management of courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level within the School;
- The post holder will also be required to:
- Carry out undergraduate and graduate lecturing and research supervision in Sport Science and Health, Athletic Therapy and Training, Physical Education and related areas;
- Carry out undergraduate and graduate lecturing and research supervision inresearch methods and sport psychology (including physical activity psychology and psychology of injury);
- Supervise students on work placements;
- Contribute to the development and delivery of taught BSc, and MSc, and Professional Doctorate programmes in the School.
Research
- The attraction and supervision of research MSc and/or PhD students
- The post holder will be also be required to:
- Pursue his/her research interests in an area of relevance to the School and contribute to the research output of the School by scholarly publications and conference resentations, as well as undergraduate and postgraduate student research supervision;
- Develop collaborations with the current academic staff, and staff in the associated research institutes;
- Develop collaborations with academics and research groups internationally;
- Seek funding support for his/her research from both internal and external sources.
Administration
- The post holder will undertake administrative functions relating to the activities of the School. These activities defined by the Head of School may include participating in School meetings, carrying out key School administrative roles at a Faculty level, engaging in meetings related to programmes, chairing programme teams, and representing the School in marketing and recruitment of students.
- The post holder will also be expected to contribute to, and lead on, the development of taught BSc, MSc programmes and Professional Doctorate programmes in the School.
Candidate Requirements
Essential
- Candidates must hold a PhD in a cognate area.
- A broad expertise in research methods, both qualitative and quantitative, with an ability to deliver both foundational and post graduate (level 9) modules/courses across the discipline.
- Evidenced specialism in the theory and application of sport psychology, specifically as it applies to the domains of sport science, athletic therapy, and physical education.
- A detailed understanding of the sport psychology profession, and demonstrate ability to promote this profession and the area of study at DCU
- Evidence of an active research profile (in terms of publication, collaboration, and/or funding) is required.
Desirable
- The ability to demonstrate success in attracting research funding would be a significant advantage.
Mandatory Training
The post holder will be required to undertake the following mandatory compliance training:
GDPR and Compliance. Other training may need to be undertaken.
Dublin City University is a university situated on the Northside of Dublin in Ireland. Created as the National Institute for Higher Education, Dublin, it enrolled its first students in 1980 and was elevated to university status in 1989 by statute.
