Job Summary
Department of Communication and Arts, Roskilde University, invites applications for a position as associate professor of Journalism with a particular focus on media language.
Responsibilities and tasks
The associate professor’s work will primarily include research (including publication/academic dissemination work) and research-based teaching with associated examination obligations). In addition to research and research-based teaching, the position also requires share of knowledge with the rest of society – including participation in public debate. Furthermore, the associate professor is expected to manage research, provide guidance and supervision of assistant professors and researchers as well as take part in academic assessments.
The ideal candidate is expected to
- Undertake research in journalism with a particular focus on media and democracy, mediated public debate, political journalism, journalistic genres and media language
- Use and contribute to the development of qualitative research methods in journalism studies, e.g. qualitative methods in reception/audience studies (e.g. qualitative interviews, protocol analysis) and textual analysis (e.g. argumentation, framing, language and style)
- Have a scholarly background in linguistics, rhetoric or communication
- Do research-based teaching in media language, journalistic genres and argumentation
- Reflect on pedagogical and didactic development when teaching and supervising journalism students
Qualifications
Applicants must:
- Hold a PhD degree or equivalent within journalism or related fields.
- Document an international publication record with relevance for the requirements of the position
- Document a research profile relevant for the research group and its further development
- Document training in teaching and university pedagogy, preferably with relevance to Roskilde University’s educational profile, project-oriented project learning, PPL.
- Preferably, the applicant has documented experience with public dissemination of research and media communication
Documented scientific qualifications such as an associate professor equivalent in relation to the above-mentioned subject areas.
- The applicant must document an international publication record with relevance for the requirements of the position
- The applicant must document a research profile relevant for the research group and its further development
- The applicant must document training in teaching and university pedagogy, preferably with relevance to Roskilde University’s educational profile, project-oriented project learning, PPL.
- Preferably, the applicant has documented experience with public dissemination of research and media communication
The ideal candidate shall be enterprising and possess good communication skills and to be a visible, involved participant in the department’s daily activities, in addition to being willing to engage in disciplinary and interdisciplinary collaboration across the department.
