Associate Professor or Senior Lecturer in Public Health

Job Summary

The Department of Health Systems and Populations is seeking a suitably qualified academic to take a leading role in the delivery of an innovative Master of Public Health (MPH) program and to foster world-class research to underpin the program. The Faculty has existing strong educational expertise, including in educational research that positions Macquarie University as a leader in the delivery of innovative academic health education.

About You

You will be actively engaged in public health practice and/or public health research, ideally with expertise in determinants of health and a public health specialisation such as policy, law, economics or other field; and will have experience in research student supervision. You will also have experience with, or a willingness to embrace, educational technology, blended learning and educational innovation. In addition, ideally you will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the integration between research/practice and quality teaching, and how this integration can enhance student engagement.

Essential for all applicants:

• PhD or equivalent tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline
• Demonstrated experience in University teaching and learning with evidence of a focus on ensuring a high-quality student experience, preferably including experience in curriculum design, course coordination and planning of teaching activities in the field of Public Health.
• Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to relate to staff and students from all backgrounds, work effectively in a team environment, and to represent the faculty to external stakeholders and the general public.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise or co-supervise research of post-graduate coursework and HDR students.
• A well-articulated research agenda, with a track record of successful health related research evidenced by publications and research student supervision or evidence of applied public health practice
• Demonstrated understanding of the principles of confidentiality, anti-discrimination, staff and student equity, occupational health and safety as well as other relevant legislation.

Additional criteria for Associate Professor applicants:

• Demonstrated ability to attract competitive grant funding at a national or international level
• Demonstrated capacity to build collaborative partnerships with industry and professional bodies for sustained positive outcomes for teaching, and/or research and/or healthcare.
• Experience and interest in interdisciplinary research and/or practice.
• Evidence of leadership within the broader academic and/or non-academic community.
• Evidence of mentoring and development of junior colleagues and students.
