Avondale School

At Avondale School every day is filled with action, excitement and the joy of learning. Avondale School provides a learning journey that begins for preschool children in our Early Learning Centre and continues through primary school onto secondary school. It is with great joy that we see our students grow and develop into life-ready young people who confidently step into their future.

Avondale School is a Christian school, built firmly on strong values. We provide our students with the opportunity to know Jesus and choose to follow Him. We inspire our students to live lives of service to others. Our Christian values are strongly embedded in all aspects of our school program, challenging students to become good citizens with strong character.

We aspire for every student to achieve their full potential. We recognise each child as a unique and amazing creation of God and we work to help each child to discover their passion and fulfil their purpose. As students learn to embrace their gifts, we see them striving to excel.

We understand that our students live in a rapidly changing world and they will need to be adaptable, life-long learners. We work strategically to support students to build skills in critical and creative thinking, collaboration and communication. Our focus on project-based learning and real-world practical learning ensures that our students build capabilities that will set them up for life.

We also understand that students learn best when they have a strong sense of connectedness and belonging. We focus on knowing, supporting and growing each student from curious pre-schoolers to confident, competent, world-changing 18 year-olds

Avondale School was founded in April 1897 in a tiny weatherboard cottage on the grounds of Avondale College, now Avondale University College. The pioneering founders saw the need for an education system that would teach the values and principles of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Under the guidance of Mrs Lacey fifteen students attended the original school, with some arriving by rowboat along Dora Creek. Modern means of transport now deliver over 850 students to Avondale School daily.
