Baden Powell is a one form entry primary school which aims to provide a good or better education for all our pupils in a stimulating and creative environment. We strive to develop the whole child through building a passion for learning, high self-esteem, confidence, tolerance and respect for self and others.

We have high aspirations for all our children and are dedicated to providing a safe, nurturing, supportive environment that will help our children grow both emotionally and socially, while challenging them academically to instill a love of learning and thirst for knowledge. Our children are happy learners and they rise to any challenges that are set them by their teachers.

We understand that strong partnerships with parents and carers, coupled with excellent teaching will help all our children achieve their full potential in all areas of their journey across primary school. We are an inclusive school and seek to ensure that all our children’s different needs are meet while at Baden Powell Primary School.

We are committed to providing pupils with an outstanding education that prepares them for success in life and promotes high self esteem, whilst raising aspirations and achievement. We believe in equality for all and continually aim for success.

Providing a caring, secure learning environment where we trust and value each other and develop belief and respect for self and others. We celebrate effort and achievement by encouraging everyone to ” Reach for the Stars”.Motivating children through creating a happy, caring, secure and positive learning environment which celebrates children’s work so they can achieve their full potential.

At Baden Powell we have embarked on an exciting new way of providing after schools clubs for our young people. We have come together with Nightingale School, Benthal School, and St Scholasticas School. Children from these four schools can access clubs in Nightingale, Benthal, and Baden Powell. This has given our young people an excellent range of after school activities.

This is now our 3rd term of joining the four schools together and it has been a tremendous success. This term children at all four schools can now access clubs at Baden Powell, Benthal and Nightingale. Have a look at our timetable; we have a vast selection of clubs to suit all needs. Last term we had children from all 4 schools coming together; this is great for community cohesion, and children have fun and learn new skills.

Priority is given to the core subjects of Maths, English and Science. In nursery and reception classes the children follow the curriculum based on the foundation stage. The children are expected to acquire skills and knowledge to enable them to develop into self motivated learners. In delivering our curriculum, we aim to develop the whole child emotionally, socially and academically.Careful records are kept of your child’s progress and you are kept fully informed through termly targets, parents evenings and annual reporting. All pupils develop the practice of home-school reading through taking home books on a regular basis to share and read with parents/carers in the early stages.

Pupil Premium is funding allocated to schools for the purpose of boosting the attainment of pupils from low income families. It is intended to enable schools to provide targeted support to help children reach their full potential.

Assemblies provide valuable time for our children to come together to share work and achievements and to mark festivals and celebrations from major world religions. We aim to broaden children’s spirituality through their innate sense of awe and wonder, and on developing their sense of right and wrong. We come together every morning in class, phase or whole school assemblies. On Friday mornings we have a whole school celebration assembly when we acknowledge and recognise the achievements of our children, staff and our wider school community. Parents and Carers are always welcome at this assembly.

The school dentist examines the children’s teeth at various times during their time here. You will be notified beforehand of this examination and also if any treatments are recommended. We rely on parents to check their children’s hair for head lice and to inform the school if they find any unwelcome visitors. Head lice are extremely common, especially in primary schools, and can spread quickly. If your child has lice they must be treated immediately.

Medication should be administered at home whenever possible. Medicines to be taken three times a day can be given before and after school and at night. On the rare occasions where children need medication administered during the day, a permission form should be completed in the office. If your child needs to bring medicine to school it should be left with the Deputy Head. Administering instructions must be clearly written.Asthma inhalers are kept by the children either in the classroom or in the medical room and must be clearly labelled with the child’s name.

Governors are required to monitor and be accountable for any area of activity which affects the school. The role is often described as that of a ‘critical friend’. Governors review and contribute to school policy and practice, and contribute to the writing of the School Evaluation Form and the School Development Plan. They are involved in decision-making issues such as: standards of achievement; curriculum development; spending; personnel; admissions; bullying; inspection; and provision for children with special needs.
