We are newly academised, since joining the Quality First Education Trust in August 2017. The Trust is a Multi Academy Trust which was set up by Belleville Primary School. We are one of four schools in the Trust - Belleville Primary School, The Alton, Churchfields and ourselves.
Belleville Wix Academy is a one and a half form entry school, very close to Clapham Common in South London. We offer a high quality, well-resourced and carefully structured provision. We have an excellent broad and balanced curriculum with a strong, daily focus on the core subject areas of reading, writing and mathematics. We employ specialist teachers to teach PE, music, art, ICT and modern foreign languages. We have a relentless drive for excellence and equality, always seeking to improve the education we offer your children.
Our school is unique in hosting three streams on site: an English stream, a French stream and a bilingual stream. Each of the streams has one class per year group, from Reception class to Year 6.
We deliver the English stream in line with the English curriculum. We share our site with école de Wix, a French primary school which delivers the French stream, in accordance with the French curriculum, and overseen by the Lycee Charles de Gaulle de Londres.
With école de Wix we jointly deliver a bilingual stream. For bilingual classes, half the week is taught in English by Belleville Wix Academy teachers; and half the week is taught in French, by école de Wix teachers. Wherever possible, the bilingual classes share their learning across both languages and both curricula.
All children on site, no matter which stream, play together, share together, eat together and learn together at every opportunity. Our 'bicultural' ethos is important to us.
Within the Quality First Education Trust, Belleville Wix Academy is supported closely by Belleville Primary School, a local outstanding school. The school is also supported by staff within the Trust's central team, which includes leaders of English, Maths and Inclusion. In this way, we are very fortunate to share the planning for and teaching of our children with a wide, specialist teaching community, whilst maintaining our unique ethos. The school is starting a new and exciting journey - one which we believe is to the benefit of all our children.
Our aim is that all children
For over 20 years Wix has shared its site with ecole de Wix, a French primary school which is an annexe of the Lycée Français Charles de Gaulle de Londres. Between us, we offer three streams onsite: the English Stream (run by Belleville Wix Academy); the French Stream (run by ecole de Wix) and the Bilingual Stream (run jointly by the two schools).
We aim to ensure that all children on site have routine and meaningful opportunities to play together, work together and learn from one another. All children eat together, wear the same uniform, and share playtimes with their peers. We value and cherish the rich mixture of cultures and world languages represented at Belleville Wix and are particularly proud of the bicultural spirit on site.
At Belleville Wix Academy we offer your children high quality, well-resourced and carefully structured provision. We have an excellent broad and balanced curriculum with a strong, daily focus on the core subject areas of reading, writing and mathematics. English and Maths are each taught for an hour every day. In addition we provide guided reading and reading enrichment at other times during the week. Pupils are provided with appropriate academic challenges.
Children also benefit from an excellent high quality specialist subject provision. For example, we employ specialist teachers to teach PE, music, art, ICT and modern foreign languages.
Pupils have opportunities to learn through a wide range of educational visits and events, including a residential trip in Year 6. There is a shared drive to constantly review, improve and enrich our curriculum to ensure learning is relevant and exciting for all pupils. We have a relentless drive for excellence and equality, always seeking to improve the education we offer your children.
Children in our bilingual stream follow the same curriculum as our English stream children in the core subjects, whilst learning the foundation subjects (History, Geography and Science) in collaboration with our French colleagues, so far as is possible.
Providing for Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) is a key part of a successful inclusive school. There is a shared expectation that all pupils regardless of their specific needs should be offered inclusive quality teaching which will enable them to make the best possible progress and feel that they are a valued member of the wider school community.
The school may offer a range of provision to support children with communication and interaction, cognition and learning difficulties, social, mental and health problems or sensory and physical needs. Additional services may also be accessed via the Quality First Education Trust, the local authority or other agencies.
We aim to provide induction, training, coaching and support to help teachers achieve good practice in teaching all children. This is achieved by working with parents and children and staff by monitoring plans, lessons and books, providing interventions, and seeking external advice to ensure that all children receive the provision they require.
Our Special Education Needs Policy is designed to promote pupils working towards becoming independent and resilient learners and should not be seen in isolation.
