Our mission at the Bhaktivedanta Swami Gurukula (Hare Krishna School) is to foster the spiritual, intellectual, and emotional development of our students. Centred in the teachings of our founder Srila Prabhupada, and supported by contemporary and evidence-based teaching methods, we strive to assist students in reaching their full potential as open-minded, inspirationaland thriving contributors to society at large, with a firm foundation in the values of compassion, cleanliness, self-regulation, and integrity.
entred in the teachings of our founder Srila Prabhupada, and supported by contem-porary and evidence-based teaching methods,…"We offer a diverse learning environment, with an emphasis on the NSW curriculum. As part of our teaching philosophy we apply a number of research-based literacy and numeracy programs, and are dedicated to using best instructional practices. For students who are struggling with their literacy, we provide one-on-one targeted intervention support programs.
We aim to provide students with an understanding of their spiritual essence, and the spiritual essence of all other beings. With an emphasis on the idea of service (to the divine, to oneself, to one another, and to the earth) we encourage students to actively be of service to the community at large.
We strive to prepare student for life after school through work experience (High School), through field trips, school camps, and a pilgrimage to India (High School). In addition we offer a wide choice of co-curricularactivities and electives. In high school the students are introduced to the Tree of Life program, which aims at providing students with tools for leading a fulfilled spiritual life in the material world.
At the Hare Krishna School we focus on a whole-schooling approach, where students benefit from a familiar environment starting in Pre-Kindergarten right through to the end of Year 12. This enables students to grow and learn with their peers in small classes with ample support, under the guidance of teachers and support staff who know and can cater to the student's individual need throughout the years. Students do not end up "lost" in the crowd, but are rather recognised for their individual strengths, and given the opportunity to develop and improve their "weaknesses".
In our Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K) class students who will be starting school the following year (aged 3-5), get a chance to become familiar with the school environment. They get to know their future teachers, their fellow students, and play in the same playground as the K-2 classes. This gives Pre-K children a chance to learn from the older children, and it gives the older children an opportunity to look out for the younger children.
In the first three years students are divided into two groups within the same building (Kindergarten in one and Years 1-2 in the other). These groups work individually with their class teacher, but come together regularly for activities, excursions and projects. This gives students the opportunity to form friendships with and learn from children slightly older than themselves, and allows the children to become familiar with their future class teacher. In this year they are introduced to the basics of literacy (sounds, blending and reading) and numeracy (numbers from 1-100, basic addition and subtraction), as well as science and technology, history, geography, art/dance/music, and PDHP. The children are also allowed a generous amount of free play and creativity to assist them in their adjustment to school life.
Our school provides high school education from Years 7 to 12, taught in accordance with the NSW syllabus. For an overview of subjects click here. We are endorsed by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) to deliver the full Higher School Certificate (HSC). We aim to provide a dynamic, relevant and engaging learning experience for students catered to their age level. Due to small class sizes teachers are able to cater to the individual needs of students. This means they know each student well and consequently, are are able to provide considerable support academically, as well as emotionally. The school is currently expanding its high school facilities to provide additional class rooms and sports facilities.
