Job Summary

The Berkeley Carroll School seeks a full-time bilingual associate teachers school year. Our Spanish program is based on the belief that children learn a language best when they hear and use it in meaningful contexts. In pre-kindergarten through first grade, bilingual associate teachers teach Spanish within the classroom.

Duties

  • collaborating with the Spanish coordinator to develop lessons using a communicative-based approach to language instruction
  • meeting with and planning alongside the head teacher to develop curriculum in all subject areas (language arts, math, reading, and social studies)
  • planning and teaching lessons in Spanish and English (in both whole and small groups)
  • facilitating a Responsive Classroom Morning Meeting several times a week, in Spanish
  • preparing classroom materials and performing tasks that are essential for a smoothly functioning classroom; these might include assisting the head teacher in typical classroom “housekeeping” tasks, such as photocopying and creating bulletin boards
  • supervising “Early Bird” coverage twice a week and taking children to buses at the end of the day

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree; current enrollment in an Early Childhood or Elementary Education Masters program is a plus
  • Fluency in Spanish
  • Ability to work collaboratively
  • Flexibility and a sense of humor
