Since 1950 Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School has provided superior secondary education in the greater Oklahoma City area. All students undertake a college-preparatory curriculum that comprises traditional core subjects, theology, and a wide variety of electives in visual and performing arts, practical studies, STEM, and other fields. Bishop McGuinness High School is a coeducational college preparatory institution of the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City, providing a Catholic secondary education for students in grades 9 through 12. Faith and values are integrated into all aspects of learning, living and service to others in order to stimulate students’ spiritual, emotional, intellectual, social and physical growth. The McGuinness campus has been transformed over the past 15 years. Starting with the renovation of our auditorium and culminating with the expansion of the new education building and science and math wings, we have made over $27 million in improvements. Our school is now a true twenty-first century educational facility. New buildings and improved facilities are exciting, but they do not define a school.
McGuinness students are involved. From academics to extracurricular activities and service projects, our students are eager to make a difference in the world. Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School has been honored by the Acton Institute as one of the Top 50 Catholic High Schools in America. The highly qualified McGuinness teaching staff works tirelessly to provide the best possible educational experience for our students. Sixty percent of the staff hold advanced degrees. Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School has a tradition of academic excellence. Each year, over 98% of our graduates attend colleges and universities around the country and typically receive scholarships totaling over $8,000,000. ACT and SAT scores are always well above state and national norms. Our curriculum consists of over 100 courses. Many of the core curriculum courses are offered on multiple levels. The average school day consists of six 55-minute classes, a 30-minute tutorial program and a 35-minute lunch period. Progress reports are issued every six weeks with a final grade assigned each semester.
Involvement is an important aspect of student life at Bishop McGuinness. Extracurricular activities not only add to the enjoyment of school life but also permit development of broader insights and experiences in the academic, cultural, political, athletic and social areas. They enhance the high school experience and enrich the community. Participation in some from of athletic or other extracurricular activity by McGuinness students approaches 90%.
