Bredon School is a dyslexia friendly independent boarding and day school for children aged 7 to 18 years old, situated in the beautiful Gloucestershire countryside.

Our inspiring location, wide-ranging curriculum and vast outdoor environment enables all pupils to find an area in which to shine; whether that is on the school farm, within the forest school, out on the sports fields, taking part in outdoor education and adventure activities, or joining our thriving Combined Cadet Force. The opportunities are endless.

Pupils join us from the local area, the UK and the wider world, and come together to form a vibrant community of learners who are socially and morally responsible and who support one another on their journey towards becoming happy, healthy, confident and capable young people.

Bredon is CReSTeD accredited and holds designated Dyslexia Specialist Provision (DSP) status.

Bredon is often described as a family school. The atmosphere here is a happy one in which our pupils can flourish with the support of our highly qualified teaching and pastoral staff. We are small and friendly and due to our size, we all get to know one another really well - our pupils work hard and make lifelong friendships along the way.

Bredon has offered a different approach to teaching and learning for over 50 years. The motto of our Founder, Colonel Sharp was that ‘the journey is as important as the destination' and this is still so significant for us today. We aim to help all our pupils to love learning and to realise their potential and achieve this through specialist teaching. We do this by offering a broad range of subjects, activities, opportunities, experiences and rewards which help to restore confidence and self-belief in our pupils. This is just one of the reasons why we were judged to be ‘Excellent’ in our ISI Inspection in September 2018 for both academic achievement and all-round personal development. We know that if we create the right environment and support network, we give every pupil the chance to shine. Pupils leave Bredon as confident and capable young men and women, ready to face the challenges of the world at large and well-prepared for rewarding and meaningful careers.

Bredon School provides an education that caters for all types of learners, treating and valuing them as individuals. We recognise that prior to joining us, many pupils may have had a negative school experience and therefore have low self-esteem as a result; we take pride in helping them to flourish and reach their potential by instilling a real passion for learning through our innovative teaching and nurturing pastoral support. In doing so, we help them to develop self-confidence and self-esteem in a safe, happy and supportive environment.

With 84 acres of beautiful school grounds, incorporating a working farm, numerous sports pitches and facilities, a canoe launch on the River Severn, allotments, climbing tower, bouldering wall and even our own clay shooting ground, our learning environments are both unique and inspirational.

Our pupils learn in well-equipped modern classrooms, and outdoors, they are able to experience lessons on our working farm or within our four acre Forest School.

We believe that learning differences should not be a barrier to success and we celebrate the many talents and skills our pupils have. We welcome pupils from the local area, the wider UK and from overseas and we encourage every pupil to participate fully in the academic and extra-curricular life of the School. As a result, our pupils develop as well-rounded, tolerant and responsible individuals, ready to meet the challenges of the wider world.

The learning experience Bredon School offers helps every pupil to develop their character, strength and talents. We provide an exciting, supportive and friendly learning environment in which children can gain confidence in their ability and thrive in their studies from Key Stage right through until the end of Sixth Form.

As our pupils move through the school, they have the opportunity to mix traditional GCSE and A Level subjects with BTECs, allowing every pupil the opportunity to flourish and progress to university, further education, an apprenticeship or by directly entering the world of work.

For the last two years (2018 and 2019), Bredon has ranked in the top 1% of 4434 schools in England for ‘Value Added’ for pupils aged 16 to 18 years. Our top ranking is based on Department for Education figures which show how much progress A Level pupils at Bredon made between the end of key stage 4 and the end of their A Level studies, compared to similar pupils across England.

Our latest Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) report reinforced our commitment to providing the very best level of provision and teaching for our pupils. In all areas, Bredon School was judged as ‘Excellent’ – the highest possible grade.

We provide a fully mainstream curriculum of both academic and vocational subjects at GCSE and A Level, yet we fully understand that the way in which each child develops in these subjects is different. Some may learn best in a classroom setting, others will learn through exploration, and others will gain tremendously from the performing arts or from their growing sporting prowess.

Bredon has a long standing reputation for its specialist support for pupils with dyslexia and associated learning needs and we offer every child the necessary support and teaching to enable them to thrive with their studies.
