The fundamentals of a good education do not change. Of course, some components should and do. At The British School of Paris we remain committed to encouraging our pupils to do and give of their best; to discover what it is they are good at and not so good at, and to learn how to value the contributions of others whilst allowing their own to be appropriately valued too. These were the values that our founder Mary Cosyn instilled in the school’s first cohort of pupils over sixty years ago.

Today, with over 780 pupils on the roll, representing well over 50 nationalities, we are one of the largest and longest-established British international schools in the world and still uphold Mrs Cosyn's high ideals and huge ambition for the young people in our charge.

Our educational programme is based on the National Curriculum for England and Wales coupled with a strong pastoral system, an approach to education which is unique in France. We are a high-achieving school with tailored provision offering educational support for the most able and for those who have specific learning needs. All children are encouraged to aim high and consistently the vast majority of our leavers gain places at their first choice universities throughout the world.

The British School of Paris is located in the western suburbs of Paris in the small market town of Croissy-sur-Seine, an idyllic spot on the banks of the Seine, a mere brush-stroke away from where Monet and Renoir found inspiration to create the canvasses that launched the Impressionist movement. Paris is consistently ranked as one of the top 20 cities in the world in which to live.

The curriculum makes full use of our proximity to the city and the Île-de-France region with regular trips to the world-famous art galleries and museums on our doorstep to enhance classroom study. The Junior and Senior School campuses, adjacent to each other on the river bank, include a nineteenth century manor house, indoor multi-purpose hall, all-weather pitch, dedicated and well-equipped science laboratories and purpose-built Junior School, which was opened in 2010. All classrooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards and we were the first school in France, from 2012, to issue all pupils from Reception Year to university-bound Year 13 to work with iPad digital tablets to enhance learning across the curriculum.

  • To provide a continuous course of high-quality all-round education to children of a wide range of abilities and cultural backgrounds, from Nursery level up to University entrance, embracing a wide range of extra-curricular activities as well as an academic curriculum based on courses followed in the UK so as to facilitate transfer to and from UK and British International schools;
  • To foster the development of individuality and independence of mind in all students, while at the same time encouraging high moral standards, self-discipline and mutual respect for the cultures, opinions and values of others;
  • To pursue a practical and interactive approach in teaching, which employs new technologies and resources, to encourage students to be rigorous in their work habits and to take responsibility for their own learning;
  • To provide a well-ordered environment in which discipline is firm without being repressive, and where school and parents work closely together and form a strong community, and to maintain close links with the local commune;
  • To ensure successful delivery of our educational programme through the employment and development of well-qualified, competent, and enthusiastic members of staff;
  • To identify and respond to every child’s needs using tailor-made programmes to help their development;
  • To maintain buildings and resources at a level commensurate with the high standards of education we are seeking to deliver;
  • To maximise the experience of living in France, a cultural dimension which offers the opportunity to enhance many aspects of the education which it provides;
  • To make students aware of health, safety, and environmental concerns, not only on a global scale, but also as they affect our daily lives.
