Abu Dhabi, UAE: The British School Al Khubairat (BSAK) announced today that it has been rated outstanding across all performance standards set by Abu Dhabi’s Department of Education and Knowledge. The School has been given an outstanding rating across all six assessment areas; students’ achievement, their personal and social development, guidance, protection and care given to them, curriculum, teaching and School’s leadership and management.
The report highlights the progress achieved by the School since the last assessment in 2016 and particularly notes that BSAK’s students’ academic attainment is exceptionally high, well above the international average in GSCEs, AS and A Levels. It also praised the introduction of BTEC Level 3 Diplomas in Engineering, Business Studies and Sport, as additional options for Sixth Form Students. Efforts to strengthen the provision for Arabic teaching has resulted in an increased number of students who speak Arabic as a second language, according to the report.

BSAK, Headmaster Mark Leppard MBE,” Naturally, we are delighted at the results of this year’s inspection and think that they reflect the exceptional standards of teaching, our students’ positive attitude towards learning and the support which we receive from the wider BSAK community. I want to thank our teachers for their commitment, talent and the complete dedication to giving our children the best chances to succeed in life, well beyond their school days.
“Achieving excellence is a collaborative and continuous process and there is always capacity to further improve. We like to engage parents, because we recognize that their active involvement is crucial to our success. Earlier this year, we launched a school-wide survey, to get direct and candid feedback on the School’s performance and gauge the parent community’s feedback on what they believe the School is excelling in and areas, where they think, there is room for improvements. Such real insights are important to inform decision-making at the highest level and help us further enhance our standards in academics, sport and music teaching, as well as safeguarding our children. This puts us in the best position to help them excel in their chosen higher education routes and career paths, while nurturing their self-confidence and ability to thrive in a globalised world.” concludes Mr. Leppard.
BSAK achieved record GCSE results in 2017/2018 with results among the best in the UAE; 18% of BSAK’s 126 students, who took the exams, achieved the new high A* equivalent of grade 9 (UK National average is 3%) and 31 students achieved 9-7 Grades (A*-A) in all their GCSEs. 3 BSAK students were amongst only 732 in the world to achieve a perfect examination record of all 9 grades. Also, a BSAK student received a special letter from the examination board, congratulating him, as one of only 3 students from over 21,000 entries around the world to achieve 100% in the GCSE Mathematics paper.
During the 2018-2019 academic year, BSAK marks 50 years of delivering world-class British education to the Abu Dhabi community. Since its inauguration in 1968, BSAK has established its position as the leading, not-for-profit community school in Abu Dhabi, enriching the lives of thousands of students, both Emirati and expatriate, many of whom have gone on to study at the most prestigious universities in the world.
