Cherwell College Oxford is an independent co-educational boarding and day school located at the centre of Oxford, for students aged between 12 and 19 years of age.
We offer a bespoke educational provision with a wide range of A Level and (I)GCSE courses, accelerated one-year, fast-track A level and IGCSE programmes, as well as short-term revision, pre-GCSE and pre-A level courses in the summer.
We strongly support and believe in each individual's unique development, and strive to ensure that all of our students achieve their fullest potential.
Cherwell College follows the Oxford and Cambridge tutorial style method of teaching. This is seen by many as the gold standard of UK education as students are able to have their unique needs met and engage deeply with their tutors and subject material.
The tutorial system at Cherwell College, which mirrors that of Oxford University, encourages our students to be independent thinkers and to become inspired to learn.
Occasionally students arrive at Cherwell lacking confidence in their ability or underperforming but are soon recharged and exceeding their expectations
Other students of exceptional ability are often ‘held back’ by traditional teaching methods and need Cherwell’s inspirational environment to drive them forward on their educational pathway.
Our prestigious location is in the very heart of Oxford at St George's Mansion - a magnificent five-storey Edwardian building offering breath-taking views over Oxford and comprise a suite of tutorial and lecture rooms, a supervised study area, a library and a common room.
Our outstanding facilities at Cherwell House (students' boarding accommodation) complement our teaching facilities and enable students to relax and take part in many extra-curricular enrichment activities e.g.: debates at the Oxford Union, local visits to the Ashmolean Museum and Blenheim Palace.
We are proud to be at the forefront of Cherwell College Oxford, where our ethos is to develop a student’s abilities to the full: to instil confidence, independence and self-discipline all of which are necessary for life at the leading UK and international universities. Our College is distinguished in that tuition is tailored to the needs of each student. We unashamedly provide a bespoke approach toward our students both in academic and welfare matters. To quote from Einstein: We never teach pupils - we attempt to provide the conditions in which they can learn.
For us, students are at the heart of Cherwell College

Cherwell College opened its doors as a tutorial college in Oxford over 45 years ago, mainly offering revision classes to students in and around the city.
Since then we have grown and are now a major co-educational GCSE and Sixth Form College in the city. Offering a wide selection of subjects and registered as an exam centre for all boards, we cater for a diverse range of individuals who join us as full-time day or boarding students as well as for our popular short-term revision and summer courses.
Our grand teaching rooms are situated on the corner of Cornmarket Street and George Street. Known as St George’s Mansion they are as impressive as they are functional, including 4 floors of teaching rooms, a library, multiple kitchens and a beautiful seminar room that doubles up as an exam room during the summer.
Our dedicated science labs and art studio are also within the town centre meaning that all our buildings are all within a short walk of each other.
In 2015 we opened our new boarding house – Cherwell House – located just a stone’s throw from the train station. Its 55 rooms all come with their own shower/wet room and a study desk. Cherwell House’s bright, modern feel makes it a perfect place for students to unwind after a long day – and the garden is great for some games and BBQs in the summer!

Thank you once again for doing your part to keep Edarabia the most trusted education source.
Taking GCSEs before embarking on A-levels has been a huge benefit to me as an international student. Cherwell helped a lot with integration into the brand new education system for me (I came to the UK from abroad to study at Oxford). I improved my academic English, and tutors helped me find my way and the inspiration for my study. Now I am confident in what I know and I am getting ready for my exams.

Cherwell College Oxford has really impressed me with the wide range of extra-curricular activities they offer. My friends and I have decided to dedicate ourselves to a music club. We formed our own band and now we are stars at every party. Before I came to this college, I had no idea that I would be interested in music. I am very grateful to this college for helping me with finding my way not only in education but also with my choice of hobbies.

I’ve joined Cherwell for a 2-year A level course.
I am studying 3 traditional A level subjects (Geography, History and English lit). I love it, though sometimes it is tough. What I find great about Cherwell is that they help me to pave my own academic path and help to identify the right curriculum to suit my abilities and aspirations. They help students to grow and provide comprehensive guidance for your ideal “set” of subjects in each individual case. It was kind of hard to study in a big classroom environment in my previous school. At Cherwell College Oxford this is not a problem, as we study in small groups and every single student has their plan. This is just right for me
