At Collis Primary School we value the contribution each child brings, and we encourage them to develop as an individual within a strong community. A broad balanced and stimulating curriculum is offered, supported by a wide range of extra curricular activities. This encourages and enables the children to give of their best and we are justly proud of their results and achievements.

At Collis Primary School we have 52 places in our nursery unit, divided equally between the morning and afternoon sessions. Each session is three hours long, commencing 8.45am in the morning and 12.30pm in the afternoon, five days/week. Children are eligible to join our nursery in the academic year in which they become four years old. All children join at the start of the school year in September. Families are invited to visit the nursery when their child is 2½ years old. We offer appointments for families to view the nursery and the school at work during the day. An application form can be downloaded from our website, or is available from the school office. Applications should be supported by a copy of the child’s birth certificate and proof of the home address, e.g. Council Tax Statement, utility bill or similar. The closing date for applications is mid-March each year. It is very important to apply on time. All late applicants will not be considered until all on-time applications have been dealt with. Offers of places are made in writing. If a family does not respond to the offer within the deadline stated, it is assumed the place is no longer required and the place will be offered to the next child on the waiting list. The offer process starts in early May and can take some weeks to complete. Families are advised to inform the school if they will be on holiday or away from home for any length of time during the period May to July when the offers are being made. Families will be informed in writing when the nursery is full.

The DfE have reinforced the need “to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.”The Government set out its definition of British values in the 2011 Prevent Strategy, and these values were reiterated in 2014.At Collis Primary School these values are taught, reinforced and celebrated in an age appropriate way, through our broad, balanced and enriched curriculum, collective worship, our structures and systems, our commitment to the importance of pupil voice and leadership and as an intrinsic part of our ethos and values. We actively challenge pupils, staff or parents expressing opinions contrary to fundamental British Values, including ‘extremist’ views.

Children and young people spend a lot of time on the internet. They may go online to research information for homework or to play games and chat with friends. he internet holds a huge amount of useful information and is a great way of learning about new things and keeping in contact with friends and family. It can also be a very dangerous place so it is important that children are protected and monitored when they are online.

Collis Primary School is committed to improving outcomes and having high expectations for all children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. We understand that for parents of children with SEND, there can be many difficult paths to navigate. Sometimes it can be hard to know or find the answers but we strive to ensure that there is always somebody here to talk through your worries, concerns or queries with.

We have an excellent partnership with parents and are highly regarded in the local community. The school values these partnerships and their success has contributed significantly to the welcoming, collaborative ethos of the school. Our parent/teacher association, Collis School Association, is extremely active. Through a successful range of social and fund raising events, valuable funds for the school have been raised and a highly supportive community spirit has been created. The exciting schedule of events includes fairs, cake sales, shopping evenings, quiz nights, and a spectacular fireworks evening.

We welcome parents as volunteers to support pupils with a variety of school activities including reading, cooking and accompanying children on visits outside school. The talents and skills of parents and other volunteers enhance the curriculum and extend the range of stimulating activities offered to the children.
Collis Primary School has a committed and effective governing body that supports and challenges the work of the school. Our governors provide a wealth of expertise and insight. They are proactive, regular visitors to the school, helping in many practical ways and working with the Leadership Team to drive the strategic vision and long-term planning process.

The well-being of our pupils is our number one priority at Collis. We regard the caring, family ethos as our greatest strength and, despite being a large school, we know each individual well. We provide a nurturing and supportive environment where each child feels valued and safe and is enabled to develop the self-confidence required to become an independent learner.

We are very fortunate to have excellent facilities set in a spacious seven acre site. The grounds accommodate extensive sports and play areas, a nature trail and a heated outdoor swimming pool. In addition to our well-equipped classrooms we have two libraries, two halls, a superb ICT suite and further rooms where children can be taught in smaller groups.
