From day one, you’ll multi-task as you try out and try on new roles and unfamiliar technologies involved in the making of creative media content. Our faculty of experienced, award-winning filmmakers, technicians, artists, and mentors use their expertise to engage you with innovative teaching methods in interactive classroom environments.

Columbia College Hollywood educates students in the art and science of communications and the diverse media of contemporary storytelling within an exploration of the liberal arts. Our rigorous course of study and practice prepares graduates to be analytical thinkers and effective communicators who are creative, knowledgeable, and responsible contributors to advancing a curious, thoughtful, and compassionate global community.

For over 60 years, Columbia College Hollywood has fostered a learning community that promotes creativity, innovation, and growth through instruction, collaboration, and a common love of the creative media arts with programs that provide a challenging liberal arts education to best prepare students for citizenship in the global community as free-thinking, entrepreneurial storytellers, filmmakers, content creators, and artists.

The college was originally established in 1953 as a Los Angeles satellite campus of Columbia College Chicago. The curriculum was designed to prepare students for careers in television, radio, and film with courses taught by a faculty of working entertainment media professionals. In 1959, the Los Angeles campus separated from the Chicago institution to operate as Columbia College Hollywood, an independent, nonprofit, private institution.

In 2018, the college established the Flashpoint Chicago branch campus and expanded its program offerings when it acquired the former Tribeca Flashpoint College, a private creative media institution located in Chicago, Illinois. Today, in Los Angeles, Chicago, and online, the college offers bachelor’s and associate degrees in film and cinema, recording arts, visual effects, animation, graphic design, digital marketing, and interactive media.

For over six decades, Columbia College Hollywood has promoted creativity, innovation, and growth through instruction, collaboration, and a common love of the creative media arts. Campus educational environments are purposefully designed to encourage each student to take the risks necessary to develop a unique artistic vision and voice. Program curricula are designed to erase boundaries between education and the professional world through exposure to hands-on project-based learning that reflect real world creative industries. Students work in teams to learn all aspects of the creative process and are mentored by a faculty of industry professionals.

All degree programs are supported by a general education program of liberal arts and sciences that focus on the core competencies, knowledge, and skills to best prepare students to become free-thinking, entrepreneurial storytellers, filmmakers, content creators, and artists. The campus also provides ample opportunities for professional access and continued learning through industry relationships to help build a foundation for creative and professional success.
