Job Summary

Wood is recruiting for a Cost Engineer to form part of our project team based at our Dubai Office, reporting to the Lead Cost Engineer. A key focus of your role will be to effectively manage change, improve the accuracy and efficiency of system reports and contribute to the team’s efforts for monthly reporting requirements.

  • Clearly understand reporting requirements and ensure the system is fully updated with accurate budgets.
  • Monitoring and controlling cost activities through all phases of the project lifecycle.
  • Supporting the implementation of project cost management procedures that provide an accurate reflection of project performance at a project and program level.
  • Developing project budgets by project estimate and WBS.
  • Assist with the development of project engineering estimates and maintenance of same in the project management system.
  • Liaising with engineering, procurement, and construction functions, as required, to maintain awareness of project activities and their impact on the project budget.
  • Input into updates to project cost forecasts.
  • Issuing project change orders/variations following engineering and construction change notifications.
  • Identify and analyse deviations and trends against budgets, investigate such deviations with the relevant group and advise the Lead Cost Engineer.
  • Analyze weekly Timewriting report to eliminate errors / wrong bookings.
  • Log all change requests and coordinate with the Project Engineers to develop the scope changes and budget transfers.
  • Log all requisitions for in-house subcontractor services, code, and track expenditure against requisitions for forecasting and budget reconciliation.
  • Review and process project expenses in line with approved project budgets.
  • Verify contractor invoices and solve issues/ queries.
  • Prepare and issue reports as per the agreed reporting calendar.

Skills / Qualifications

  • 1-3 years’ experience as a Cost Controller.
  • Relevant degree in Business or Engineering or sufficient industry experience.
  • Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Exposure to engineering projects will be considered advantageous.
  • Strong skills required in Microsoft Office – Particularly in excel.
  • Demonstrated experience with Earned Value Management (optional).
