We believe all children are capable and exceptional. By respecting and encouraging each one’s personality, strengths, and interests they are allowed to shine in their own unique way. This allows each child to understand their potential and develop the confidence which builds the core of their future success.

At Daizawa International School ‘DIS’ we provide learning opportunities for all children from 12 months of age. The aim of DIS is to nurture children into becoming successful world citizens, people confident enough to make friends and speak from their heart no matter which country life may lead them to. A true world citizen is someone who can make friends and be trusted anywhere in the world. It sounds easy for children to become bilingual or even trilingual, but there is much more to communication than just speaking a language. For one to be truly capable of open communication they need to be active listeners who are caring, courageous, respectful, and culturally literate. An excellent international early childhood setting does make it possible for children to gain these skills. Our approach to education provides a wide range of experiences in a homey atmosphere where each child’s personality can shine. Our mission at DIS is to help children to be happy and confident in themselves so that they may be successful no matter where their future may take them.

The world is continuing to globalize and no one knows exactly what the future will have in store for children growing up today. At DIS we provide an education which allows children to not only to gain new skills, but more importantly develop the ability to adapt, continue learning new skills, and develop a love for learning. This gives our students the ability to be successful as a world citizen in a rapidly changing global community and opens up an endless number of pathways that guarantee a bright future.

At DIS we are strongly influenced by the style of teaching born in the small village of Reggio Emilia in Italy. At the core of our Reggio approach is the belief that each child is fully capable of expressing themselves and communicating their interests. Because of this, we believe that the children can have a great deal of control over their own education.

The DIS Approach offers children an amazing array of experiences designed and curated by the teachers to reflect each child’s interests and strengths. As the children work alongside their friends and teachers to develop projects, they learn how to work as a team, complete research, become confident in themselves and their own abilities, and most importantly, develop a love for school and learning.

The Reggio Emilia approach was developed in the 1940s in the town of Reggio Emilia in Italy. The educators and parents in this community developed the approach with the goal of helping children become better citizens. The Reggio approach is flexible and is developed from children's ideas, thoughts, communication, and observations. The goal of the approach is to help children develop a lifelong passion for learning and exploration.

The Reggio approach gained a lot of attention in 1991 when experts at Newsweek magazine listed the preschools in Reggio Emilia one of "best top ten schools in the world”. Support and interest for Reggio continues to grow and even leading institutions like the World Bank and Google are advocating for the Reggio approach. The goals of the Reggio approach and the DIS philosophy align perfectly and therefore Reggio was incorporated into the DIS approach to education and our mission to help children develop into confident and capable world citizens.

Our Sprout program has a thematic curriculum focusing on topics that facilitate an interest in learning. Through a curriculum which is based on daily projects, the children are allowed to explore their interests, reward their curiosity, and further their own development.

Children in the Sprout program are constantly exploring a variety of materials, textures, colors, sounds, and sensory experiences. The goal of the program is to provide the children with the opportunity to make new discoveries every day.

In the Maple class the children are introduced to more thematic learning and projects can develop to last for a week or often even an entire theme. In the Maple program we begin to introduce the children to the country based studies which form the core of the curriculum for our Oak program. By pairing child interest based daily studies with exciting thematic projects, our Maple children are allowed to develop a greater understanding of each month’s theme. The Maple program is supplemented by exciting lessons in music, sports, and gardening. The goal of the Maple program is to allow the children to develop a love for learning through more in depth explorations.

Our Oak program focuses entirely on international thematic discovery. The Oaks are engaged in child-led explorations of a new country each month. During each theme the children are allowed to follow their interests in a wide range of topics including creative studies, dance, music, science, geography, and cooking. In addition to this, the children’s learning is supported by additional programs such as curated art gallery trips and ongoing farming experiences. The goal the of Oak program is for the children is to become confident problem solvers who will carry their love of learning with them wherever they go in life!
