Dame Ellen Pinsent is located in the south of Birmingham and is a Primary Special School for cognition and learning. We cater for 150 children with a range of special educational needs; cognition and learning difficulties are the children’s primary needs, additional needs include speech and language and autistic spectrum condition.
It is an honor and a privilege to be the Head Teacher of such a wonderful school!
We have a highly skilled, enthusiastic and committed team of staff who work with the children and their families to promote improvements in basic skills, independence, communication and social skills. We want our pupils to be confident, lifelong learners and valued members and contributors to their community. We believe a multi-disciplinary approach supports our children; as such we emphasize this approach and aim to work with parents, children and other professionals to make a positive difference. Such other professionals that we work with include, school nurse, pediatrician, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and physiotherapists.
Our curriculum is broad, balanced, exciting and challenging, built on many years of development to give our pupils' a quality experience that enriches their lives. Our core curriculum of English, Math's, Science, PE, PSHE and Computing is complimented by our Topic Curriculum and aspects such as Forest Schools. This status enhances our curriculum with an emphasis on learning in the outdoors, utilizing our fantastic school grounds and using the local community to develop independence skills. All classes are equipped with iPads and other hardware that supports our pupils experience and ensures they are familiar with the latest technology.
The children are encouraged to be involved in their own learning; they evaluate their own work through the use of words, pictures and symbols and they are keen to do well. Their behavior is exceptional and we are proud of how they support one another and develop as individuals.
Dame Ellen Pinsent: Where children develop independence and confidence; and learn through curiosity, play and enquiring.
