Deputy Design Manager / Senior Design Engineer (Cables)

Job Summary

The ideal candidate will be responsible for assisting the Design Manager in supervising the design of cable laying activities, analysing GIS drawings, etc. Reviews the output of design team to ensure design objectives are achieved, also ensures that design drafts are in accordance with project requirements.

Responsibilities

• Direct the designing of cable route, route profile, traffic diversion, dewatering, sheath bending, end-end cable drawing installation, basement drawings, DD profile drawings and all other working drawings
• Analyse survey input to ensure GIS drawings meet the requirements of clients and other stakeholders
• Review rough sketches/drawings to ensure they are in accordance with client’s and local authorities’ rules and regulations
• Evaluate the feasibility of design ideas, based on factors such as safety, serviceability, etc
• Present designs drafts and reports to clients or design committee for approval and discuss need for modification, if any
• Finalize the built drawings based on as-laid details and as-laid information and fetch approvals of the same from all authorities
• Provide all required drawings in a timely manner and support the project coordinator and manger for design related activities
• Co-ordinate with clients, consultants, local authorities, other contractors/3rd parties for design related activities
• Freezing the cable cut lengths and joint bays depending on the design approvals enabling the PM to provide obligatory data to suppliers
• Set targets for draftsmen, surveyors and other workers to ensure work is completed within project schedule
• Monitor the overall progress of design team and take corrective actions to achieve design milestones
• Plan and assign tasks to the team to keep up with project deadlines
• Plan and supervise ground surveys at proposed work sites
• Direct the work of surveyors, draftsmen, charge hand and others throughout the design process
• Ensure industry standards are maintained while conducting surveys and strict adherence to safety and civil regulations
• Provide support to the NOC department required to undertake cabling drawing

Requirements

• Must have Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Electrical Engineering from a reputed university
• Must have minimum 10-12 years of work experience in a power distribution/transmission company in designing for cable laying activities, including at least 5 years of managerial experience within UAE/GCC
• Good Knowledge about statutory rules and regulations from RTA , Dubai Municipality , Dubai Supply Authority,JAFZA,Trakhees,Central Militiary ,DEWA enabling to incorporate the same while designing the cable routes
• Should be able to independently evaluate / asess the cable routes & its associated surface constraints including solutions to problems while providing tender survey reports
• Knowledge of using/handling survey equipment and survey data interpretation
• Knowledge of using AutoCAD/Micro Station tools is desirable
• Excellent communication skills to deal effectively with staff, clients and other stakeholders
• Special understanding of government agency functions within UAE/GCC
