Deputy Vice-chancellor (Dvc) Teaching & Learning

Job Summary

Teaching &; Learning reports to the Vice-Chancellor & Principal and gives support by providing strategic leadership, management and coordination of the teaching and learning activities of the university. Executive Deans of DUT’s six (6) faculties report to this position.

Minimum Requirements

PhD with 10-15 years’ experience of working and teaching in Higher Education environment. Preferably, 5 years’ experience at executive management level, with complex responsibility at faculty or institutional level. A full Professor is preferable.

Key Responsibilities

• Provides overall strategic direction to teaching and learning, in line with legislation, the institutional strategy and international best practice Conceptualises academic policy initiatives for consideration by Council/Senate.
• Oversees implementation of strategies and plans to implement DUT’s academic policy
• Oversees curriculum design, development, delivery (online and otherwise) and assessment of its outcomes and its quality
• Ensures that academic staff and student academic development are embedded in the University’s initiatives
• Entrenches data analytics in the management of access and success of DUT’s students
• Provides specific high-level, legally compliant strategic advice on all academic related matters, to the Vice-Chancellor, Senate, Executive Management and Council
• Provides specific high-level, legally compliant strategic advice on all academic related matters to the Vice Chancellor, Senate, Executive Management and Council.
• Oversees data and systems management to provide relevant management information as required by the academic sector.
• Oversees the preparation of budgets, staffing levels, academic support costs/equipment and spatial requirements.
• Represents the academic sector at all appropriate internal and external forums
