Dominican Academy

Dominican Academy has been educating young women intellectually, emotionally, socially, and spiritually since 1897. Located in the heart of the Upper East Side on 68th Street between Park and Madison Avenues, Dominican Academy (D.A.) consistently ranks among New York City's best high schools. Operated by the Dominican Sisters of Peace and lay staff, D.A. unites academic excellence and an all-honors curriculum with an intimate, family-like atmosphere. D.A. challenges and empowers young women to be local and global leaders in the 21st century.

The teachers play a pivotal role in the lively approach to learning here at D.A. Teachers make themselves available to students by being attentive to their questions and doubts, providing thoughtful feedback on their work, and showing genuine interest in their learning and development. Outside of the classroom, teachers serve as club moderators for groups as varied as Girls Who Code, Shakespeare Club, and Campus Ministry.

It is amazing for me to see how engaged the students are in so many aspects of life here. As one graduate recently wrote: “At D.A., we are taught to be virtuous women of strong character and encouraged to live lives of integrity, to thirst for justice and to choose the right thing.” A parent or a President could hope for nothing more.

Dominican Academy is sponsored by the Dominican Sisters of Peace. Dominican Sisters of Peace are vowed Catholic Sisters who strive to live a life of peace-making. Building upon the teachings of the Gospel and the tradition of the Roman Catholic Church, Dominican Sisters work to build a more peaceful world through ministries, prayer, and way of life. In the Dominican tradition, prayer, community, ministry, and study are at the heart of the order's vocation.

We are scholars. At D.A., learning is personal. Our unique all-Honors curriculum offers a variety of paths to academic success drawing upon the strengths and talents of each individual student. The academic experience at D.A. consists of an extensive and rigorous college preparatory curriculum from the humanities and language to science and mathematics. Our faculty lead by example, helping to instill both values and leadership qualities in our students.
