The break applies to students and academic and administrative staff at public and private institutions, with classes set to resume on March 23

Private schools in Dubai and Sharjah will begin their spring break from Monday, March 9, with classes resuming on Monday, March 23, education authorities in both emirates have announced.

Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) said the two-week break will apply to students, teaching staff, and administrative employees across all private schools. The holiday, which has been moved forward, will run until Sunday, March 22, after which normal classes will resume.

Similarly, the Sharjah Private Education Authority confirmed that private educational institutions in the emirate will follow the same schedule. The authority said the decision was made after approval from the Education and Human Development Council and the Community, to ensure schools across the UAE follow the same academic calendar.

Nationwide spring break schedule

The announcement comes after the UAE’s Ministry of Education (UAE) and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (UAE) confirmed on March 4 that spring break across the country’s education sector will run from March 9 to March 22 for both schools and universities. The break applies to students and academic and administrative staff at public and private institutions, with classes set to resume on March 23.

According to the 2025–2026 academic calendar, spring break was originally scheduled to begin later in March. Authorities decided to bring the holiday forward by about a week, citing the need to adjust the academic schedule amid the current regional situation.

India’s Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) also cancelled several Class 10 board examinations scheduled in the Middle East, while postponing a Class 12 exam scheduled for March 7, citing the prevailing situation in parts of the region.

Earlier shift to online learning

Before announcing the early spring break, authorities had introduced precautionary measures in the education sector. Schools and universities had temporarily moved to distance learning from March 2, which was later extended until March 6.
