In 1956 the first Afrikaans school on the Bluff named Island View was established. In 1957 the school was renamed and called Hoërskool Dirkie Uys with pupils from Class 1 to Standard 6 (Grade 8). In January 1959 it became a high school only with Mr. P.R.T. Nel as principal. In 1962 occupation was taken of the school buildings and at the end of that year the first group of pupils matriculated.
During the following years the school achieved excellent results and performed very well academically as well as on the sport field and culturally. At the beginning of 1997 we became a parallel medium school and the first English speaking pupils were admitted. The school name changed on 1 April 1997 to Durban Academy.
The vision of Durban Academy is to be a centre of educational excellence serving our community through the development of responsible, disciplined learners who will contribute positively to an ever-changing global society.

My child has been attending Durban Academy High School for the past year, and I couldn't be happier with the quality of education they are receiving. The teachers are dedicated and knowledgeable, always going above and beyond to ensure that every student is supported. The staff at Durban Academy High School are incredibly helpful and supportive, creating a positive and nurturing learning environment. I have seen a significant improvement in my child's academic progress and overall confidence since they started at the school. I highly recommend Durban Academy High School to any parent looking for an excellent education for their child.
