At EWPS we believe that every child has the potential to succeed. Our highly effective staff team are dedicated to providing a safe and caring environment where children can develop a sense of independence, responsibility and self-confidence to enable them to reach their full potential.

Our curriculum provision, including after school clubs, has been designed to ensure children are engaged and interested in their learning and enjoy a breadth of experiences to foster an eagerness to become life-long learners. We are fortunate to have excellent facilities to support this approach including a dance studio, library, market garden, sensory room and pond to name but a few!

‘Learning to grow and succeed together’ is the vision we all ascribe to and underpins all aspects of our school community; we believe every individual has a responsibility towards ensuring our Ellen Wilkinson ‘family’ is successful and our values show how we do this.

At Ellen Wilkinson Primary School we expect everyone in our community to embody our core values. In order to do this everyone has the right and the responsibility to be:

  • Inspired and inspire others.
  • Respected and respect everyone.
  • Successful and help others to succeed.
  • Resilient and help others to develop resilience.
  • Heard and cared for.

In order to achieve our vision of ‘Learning to Grow and Succeed Together’, we have adopted a set of core values around which school development is planned. These values are a result of consultation with all members of our school community.

As part of our teaching of our Discovery Curriculum, we learn about British and international History, and how some countries are run. We learn about rules in sport/games as part of our PE lessons and have visits from the police and fire brigade to learn about rules in our community. We also have a project in year 5 which links with the Royal Courts of Justice. In addition, at the start of each academic year all classes from years 1 -6 complete a British unit which covers the rule of law as well as how our democratic system works.

Ellen Wilkinson Primary ensures every individual achieves their best through high expectations for all, which focus on confidence, creativity and care. Through our teaching of PSHE/Citizenship and we develop an understanding human and children’s rights and responsibilities.

This is an integral aspect of life at Ellen Wilkinson Primary School. We expect our learners to be respectful, confident and positive individuals. We encourage every child to care about, and have respect for, their learning, each other and our environment. By being socially and emotionally intelligent, understanding about themselves and each other, our children will make the right choices and experience positive relationships now and in the future.

We teach children the values of their own opinions as well as those of others and demonstrate this through weekly performance assemblies where classes present on a variety of diverse topics to their peers, school staff, parents and governors. Examples of this include taking pupils out on educational visits to different places of worship, and following the Newham Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education that educates pupils about all the main belief systems in the UK.

Our SEND provision at Ellen Wilkinson Primary School provides support for pupils who for one reason or another have barriers to learning and participation in the school curriculum. We recognise that pupils learn at different rates and that there are many factors affecting achievement, including ability, emotional state, age and maturity. We believe that all our pupils including those with SEND have a right to a broad and balanced curriculum to achieve their best; becoming confident and independent individuals developing the skills to make a successful transition to secondary education and beyond.
