Welcome to Embley we believe that every child is unique and deserves the recognition of that as they grow. We are academically ambitious for our children and motivate them to achieve their personal best. We encourage an appropriate belief in oneself while being mindful that the world does not end at the tip of one’s nose and that happiness in life is through success in enriching the lives of others.

Our expectations are high and we make no apology for this; children respond positively to the belief we have in them. They are encouraged to take intellectual risks, to challenge themselves and to respond to that challenge because they know we are there to support them. Mistakes are valued as opportunities for growth and development.

We expect all our pupils to develop independence, responsibility and a spirit of enquiry from a young age but we cannot foster these ideals without giving our children a meaningful opportunity to practice them. From class representation in student councils our students also lead on national conferences, address national education fora, trade on the London Exchange in our Stock Market Investment Club and develop their economic and business acumen through our MBA Experience in partnership with Winchester University. They also lead award winning sailing, drama and golf programmes and, in co-operation with staff, plan and manage business tendering and projects. Our children have the opportunity to be their best and leave us with a character that will inform the rest of their lives.

From the day a child joins our Nursery, we help prepare them for school. Our children progress through our Caterpillar and Bumblebee Rooms to the Butterfly Room, where we help them transition to a school environment. We encourage a love of learning in all our children through the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and we follow their interests and allow them to become confident and independent in their own abilities.

Our Nursery is situated in our self-contained Early Years Department with easy access to our Prep School facilities and grounds. With Reception class next door, the transition from nursery to school couldn’t be smoother.

Our Prep School provides an education that uncovers and nurtures each child’s niche and inspires ambition and academic achievement. Our children are encouraged to be independent and push themselves to find out more, giving a real sense of purpose to their learning adventures. Specialist subject staff work across every year group to give our children the very best learning experiences.

A huge range of academic opportunities are combined with a diverse co-curricular programme including performing arts, drama and music alongside sports such as sailing, skiing, golf and tennis. Many and varied initiatives and events, such as our Prep School Stock Exchange Club and Prep Politics, Philosophy & Economics Conference provides a variety of complex, multi-layered problem solving experiences and develop articulate, reasoned and informed children with analytical minds.

At the heart of our carefully designed Senior School curriculum is a stimulating and engaging learning experience. Academic rigour ensures our students feel both success and challenge on a daily basis while receiving the support and recognition they deserve. Our teaching and learning strategy is evidence and research based, using proven methods that enable every child to achieve their best. This strategy is supported by an innovative approach to the use of technology, which is shaped by our nationally recognized and award-winning leaders.

Class sizes are small and tailored to monitor and assess each child on a regular basis. We ensure that every student is in the right class for their individual strengths and needs, where they will be stretched at an appropriate pace and there is scope for their evolving skill set.

Our idyllic surroundings in 130 acres of woodland and parkland provide the setting for a range of opportunities that is simply second to none. Our students don’t just learn a wide canon of knowledge and array of skills, they also learn about learning and the subject-specific strategies they can adopt to support their learning, developing the confidence required to self-regulate and take control of their own progress through the Senior School.
