Fo Guang University (Buddha's Light University)

Fo Guang University is an unique institution of higher learning dedicated to providing a traditional liberal arts education of global outlook in the grand Buddhist spirit. However, students are neither required nor expected to study Buddhism or practice its tenets.

At least 13 scheduled bus runs between Jiaushi Railway Station, YilanCity Campus, and Fo Guang University are accessible to students and teaching staff daily.

Equipped with a cafeteria, noodle shop, convenience store, café and fruit store to provide for the daily needs of faculty members. Vending machines selling drinks and instant noodles are also available.

Managed by Tonsan Bookshop based in Taipei, the store provides services in placing orders on textbooks and display of new publications to enable teachers and students access to first hand publication despite the remote campus location.

Outdoor sports facilities include basketball courts, volleyball courts and an archery range, while indoor facilities including table-tennis rooms, billiards tables and a weight training room are available. The new gymnasium (Hui-en-guan), once completed, will provide teachers and students substantially large indoor activity arrears. Situated on the Linmei mountain area with beautiful scenery and plenty of fresh air, the campus paths and roads are ideal locations for hiking and jogging.

Fo Guang features the Chinese Language Instruction Center, which is dedicated to serving the needs of non-native speakers of Chinese from all over the world seeking an education in Chinese language and culture. An experienced faculty and comprehensively planned curriculum provide students with a keen interest in Chinese language, thinking, customs and culture with the requisite training and guidance to speak effectively.
