Ganesha University of Education

Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha hereinafter referred to as Undiksha is a state institution of higher education where students learn to be teachers and non-teachers. In Bali, it is the biggest institution where students go to be teachers. So far more than thirty three thousand students, most of whom are teachers, have graduated from it. It was established in 1955 when it ran a B-1 Course through which students were trained to be Indonesian Language Teachers. In 1957 it ran a course through which students were trained to be Teachers of Commerce for Senior High School. Then, in 1962 the two courses were merged into the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education ‘Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan’ hereinafter referred to as FKIP of Airlangga University. In the same year FKIP was merged with Udayana University, and in 1963 it became IKIP Malang, Singaraja branch. In 1968, FKIP was developed into two faculties; they are the Faculty of Teacher Training and the Faculty of Education and was still under Udayana University. In 1981, the Faculty of Teacher Training and the Faculty of Education were merged into the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of Udayana University. In 1993 FKIP was separated from Udayana University and became the Institute of Teacher Training and Education ‘Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Pendidikan Singaraja’ hereinafter referred to as STKIP Singaraja, and in 2001 it became the State Institute of Teacher Training and Education Singaraja, hereinafter referred to as IKIP Negeri Singaraja. Finally, the two courses, through a long process, after IKIP Negeri Singaraja became Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha (Undiksha) based on the Presidential Decree No. 11/2006 dated 11 May 2006, became Undiksha.

Vission of university is to becoming an institution of higher education which develops knowledge, technologies, and/or arts based on the philosophy of ‘Tri Hita Karana’, and produces highly competitive, professional and quality human resources in education and non-education.

Missions of University is Undertaking education and teaching to produce highly quality academic,professional, and vocational human resources in education and non-education. Undertaking research to develop and implement knowledge, technologies, and/or arts in education and non-education. Undertaking community service as the implementation of knowledge, technologies, and/or arts as an attempt to enrich the contribution made by Undiksha to improving the people’s prosperity. Developing cooperation and partnership with other institutions of higher education, related institutions, and business and industrial worlds which develop one another.

Aims of Undiksha:

• Exploring, implementing, and developing knowledge, technologies, and/or arts in education and non-education.
• Developing and implementing the innovative learning models in order to produce the highly quality learning process and highly quality graduates.
• Developing and improving the quality of human resources in academic, professional, and vocational fields so that they will be highly competitive and independent, and contribute to the nation’s competitiveness.
• Providing and improving the community service in different forms, expertise and skills needed by the national development.
• Producing and publishing different findings and innovations in sciences and technologies which are useful to the state and nation’s development.
• Establishing and developing collegial partnership with other national and international institutions of higher education, institutions, business and industrial worlds which benefit one another.

Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha ‘Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha’ hereinafter referred to as Undiksha is a university which is responsible to the Ministry of Research and Technology and Higher Education, and is located in Singaraja, Bali Province. Undiksha was established on 11 May 2006 based on the Presidential Decree of the Republic of Indonesia No. 11 of 2006 concerning the Change of the State Singaraja Institute of Teacher Training ‘Institut Keguruandan Ilmu Pendidikan Negeri Singaraja’ into Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha ‘Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha’ (Undiksha). The symbol of Undiksha is Ganesha with the motto dharmaning sajjana umerdhyaken widyaguna, meaning that wise people are obliged to develop knowledge and character.
