Garden House Waldorf School is located in the heart of Clearwater Bay, next to Silverstrand Beach, and offers a Waldorf curriculum for children aged 1-12 years old. It all began in 2008 when Garden House Waldorf Kindergarten first laid its foundation in this building. In 2021, when there were wishes from the community to form a Waldorf primary school, after much considerations we have decided to build a wider community, preparation of the birth of primary started then. Our commitment to a holistic education extends beyond the classroom and includes our 10,000 square feet of farmland, which is an essential part of our educational program.
Our campus comprises a Waldorf primary school and kindergarten in a beautiful Waldorf building spanning over 23,000 square feet. We are committed to remaining an urban/countryside school to better serve the needs of the greater community and attract a diverse student body. Our school has put great effort into designing the campus to support the needs of our students, providing ample green space for play, gardening, and a beautiful environment in keeping with our pedagogical understanding.
The community in Hong Kong is economically, geographically, and culturally diverse. We have active involvement from our alumni and parent communities, who provide both financial and volunteer support for our school.
With love and devotion, we strive to nourish and awaken the unique capacities of each student physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual to help them meet the future with courage, initiative, compassion and resilience. With the combination curriculum of sciences, arts and crafts, we will help them acquaint feelings for beauty, clarities of thinking, strong motives from within, and other strengthened abilities to stand firmly in the world as lifelong learners.
The Waldorf schools, also referred to as Steiner schools, are schools based on the educational philosophy of Rudolf Steiner, an Austrian educator and formulator of anthroposophy. In 1919, Steiner established his first school in Stuttgart, Germany, which catered to the children of the Waldorf-Astoria Company's employees.
Today, there are more than 1,100 Waldorf schools and almost 2,000 Waldorf kindergartens spread across around 80 countries worldwide. This makes it the largest independent and non-denominational school system in existence. Over 100 years the Waldorf movement aims to enhance Waldorf education for modern times and pay more attention to its global aspects.
Waldorf Education is designed to guide and support children through the natural phases of development, fostering their growth into resourceful, warm-hearted, flexible, and practical adults. We recognize childhood as a journey that requires time for the unfolding of the three soul forces - thinking, feeling, and willing - in maturing children.
