Gib Gate is the Southern Highlands’ leading academic primary school. Set on 10 acres at the base of Mount Gibraltar, the School is at the gateway to the Southern Highlands of NSW.

As a Frensham school, Gib Gate offers a values-based, broad liberal education, where students learn how to learn through experiencing adventure, belonging, challenge, doing, excellence and service across the curriculum, within and beyond the classroom. A local school with a global focus, the Gib Gate Jamieson Programme immerses students in inquiry learning, critical and ethical thinking, second language learning and outdoor education and scientific enquiry, encouraging students to think and act with a local and global perspective.

Within a rich, arts-based curriculum, Gib Gate students learn to play musical instruments, participate in musical ensembles, orchestra and choirs, annual Junior and Senior musicals and Visual Arts exhibitions. Beyond the classroom students learn how to belong to sporting teams and participate in a range of extra-curricular activities, finding their strengths and voice beyond the core programme.

Gib Gate is a non-denominational school based on Christian values. Using an inquiry approach to learning, embedded within a culture of critical thinking, students are actively engaged and suitably challenged across the curriculum in areas of personal interest. Core literacy and numeracy skills - expertly taught - allow students to access rich literary and scientific texts and engage in higher-order mathematical thinking. The development of scientific literacy, carefully scaffolded from Preschool to Year 6, ensures students think critically about the world around them and develop a sense of local and global responsibility.

Servant Leadership is encouraged at every level, with each Year 6 student given the responsibility for leading the School’s Peer Support and Buddy Programme, as well as assuming individual roles of responsibility in service of the School.

Our highly-qualified and accredited teachers design lessons by speaking one-on-one with students about their learning styles, interests and aspirations­ – and what they want to learn. Every child is treated as an individual who possesses unique gifts and talents that are identified and nurtured.

This gives students a ‘voice’ that explains how they want to access and acquire skills, knowledge and information, and a choice for how they wish to express their knowledge.

As experts in data collection and analysis, Gib Gate teachers work collaboratively to map each student’s strengths and weaknesses. Over time, this helps them to identify and predict knowledge gaps and personalize the instructions and content to each student’s individual learning path.
