The College runs a strong values program that is intended to provide students with a thorough grounding in the Christian faith and relate this instruction to the life of the student. We aim to encourage a strong sense of self-worth, along with respect for others, while fostering the God-given gifts and abilities of each student.
Vision is Every child a gifted child, growing and learning together in Christ. The Lord Jesus Christ is the cornerstone of our College and the reason for its existence. We proclaim His love and forgiveness, and seek to live under His guidance.
We believe that all people have God given gifts and talents. Our teachers are facilitators of a vibrant learning process which enables our students to strive toward their best in the spiritual, intellectual, physical, cultural, social and emotional areas of their lives.
Good News Lutheran College was established for and continues to provide a quality Christian education for members of its local congregations, and for those in the wider community who seek such an education. We will promote values and standards in line with this Christian ethos with a commitment to providing a cooperative environment in which our students, teachers and parents are able to grow together. Through God's Word students will learn about the relationship of God to all people and the relationship of His people to others.
The College follows curriculum guidelines set out by the Victorian Directorate of School Education, and guidelines used in other Lutheran schools. The College curriculum is based on the Australian Curriculum, along with AusVELS in curriculum areas where the national curriculum has not yet been finalised. Teachers are involved in curriculum development on a regular basis.
Support programs for disadvantaged students are a feature of Lutheran Schools and are provided when the need arises. Open–ended, investigative tasks cater for students of all abilities. For more information about our engaging curriculum, please contact the College.
This year the College has committed to the adoption of a set of international programmes - the International Baccalaureate. Good News Lutheran College believes that the International Baccalaureate aligns incredibly well with its educational philosophies and values, as well as helping better support its amazing multicultural, international community. Mrs Maria Denholm will head the Primary Years Programme (PYP), to teach children aged 5-12 in our College to be an inquirer both within and outside the classroom environment.
The Middle Years Programme (MYP), which will be overseen by Mrs Erin Bagot, is a five-year programme for students aged 11-16, encouraging them to make practical connections between their education and the real world. IB programmes aim to provide a series of rigorous, challenging and unique curriculums to authorised schools, focusing on developing students to be internationally-minded individuals and promote students' participation in a global society.
Staff members of Good News Lutheran College share a vision of working with parents to support their children as they grow and develop. While offering support, teachers encourage students to take responsibility for their own decisions and to form their own attitudes and opinions about life.
Good News Lutheran College aims to provide an educational pathway for each student by focussing on strong Christian values. These values enable students to develop an understanding of the richness of life through the saving grace of Jesus Christ. Values empower them to be both successful learners and valuable members of the wider community.
