Gwangju National University of Education was established in 1923 as the Jeonnam Public Education School and under the instruction of "We explore the truth, act justice and go to the proud teacher's way" We have been running for 100 years in the best efforts to nurture.

As a result of these efforts, our university recently made remarkable progress in various indicators. We have achieved remarkable results in evaluating the acceptance rate and scholarship rate of our students, securing development fund and external funding, improving the school environment, participating in international exchange, and satisfying the lectures of teachers. In particular, the excellent results received from various national projects and the evaluation of teacher training institutes selected by the government and related organizations have also become the basis of other shifts.

But despite the breakthroughs, our university is facing another crisis.The rapid decline in the school-age population caused by low fertility is a big crisis for us to prepare for the new century. Through restructuring and intense competition between universities caused by a decrease in the number of students, we will overcome the crisis with a wisdom based on our experience of the past 100 years.

Based on Korean educational philosophies, Gwangju National University of Education seeks to research profound academic theories and their practical applications needed for schools and communities and educate qualified elementary school teachers equipped with leadership and competent teaching skills. It is indeed a small but strong university and a proud university . All of these accomplishments are the result of our unity and cooperation .
