Halifax Grammar’s 2019/20 Co-Heads of Student Council. As the elected student representatives, we help to encourage school spirit each day, push our fellow students to be their best selves, and involve our entire Grammar community in as many different ways possible. We’re in our second year in our gorgeous new campus, and our familiarity with the space allows us to try new activities and events, while also bringing back our favorite traditions! One of our goals is to regularly involve the whole school community in activities, events, and assemblies; however, our main goal is to have each Grammar student come to school each day excited and looking forward to what is to come, even if there are challenges along the way.

Grammar students like us are fortunate to attend a school where staff, fellow students, and families are always around to encourage and work with us, ensuring we have a bright future ahead. Whether it’s by helping us to study for a test, pushing us further on the court, or guiding us in planning our academic futures, they genuinely care about our progress and want us to do our best inside and outside the classroom. We hope that each student will take advantage of everything this school has to offer, and that you all have a great year.

At Grammar, we believe all students should discover their passions and develop their potential. Every day, we prepare students for university and for life by developing confidence and independence through a balanced curriculum in academics, athletics, altruism and the arts because when young people truly recognize their reason and purpose in life, they always make the world a better place. Today’s Grammar School enrolls 530 students in one campus from Junior Primary to Grade Twelve.

The Board of Governors of the Halifax Grammar School is made up of volunteers from our school community, be they parents, faculty or alumni. Care is taken to nominate individuals with diverse skill sets, experience, and backgrounds to assist the Board in fulfilling its important stewardship responsibilities. We are fortunate to have dedicated and capable individuals serving on the Board. Grammar benefits from their collaborative efforts to advance the best interests of the School.

The Grammar School's academic curriculum seeks to bring out the best in students. In all of our academic programs, our extraordinarily talented teachers focus on truly engaging students in learning. From Junior Primary to Grade 12/Senior 3, the school's academic programs seek to solidify the fundamentals of literacy and numeracy, to stimulate independent thinking, to nourish the creative spirit, and to develop healthy attitudes toward life.

We also aim to develop truly educated young people and to awaken in them an interest in the wider world. In our classrooms, as well as in the hallways, teachers "go the distance" for our students. Our school is organized into three distinct divisions:

  • Prep
  • Middle
  • Senior

In each of these divisions, the academic programs are tailored to the capabilities and interests of students at each stage of their educational and personal development. Each division offers a stimulating academic program within the balanced curriculum, exposing students to academics, athletics, and the arts. While our priority is on academics, the school recognizes its responsibility to promote the fullest development of students.
