HEAJ Haute Ecole Albert Jacquard

The Haute Ecole Albert Jacquard is one of the six University colleges managed by the Wallonia Brussels Federation. Located in the city centre and in the Namur province, the Haute Ecole Albert Jacquard offers you cutting-edge teaching.

The Haute Ecole Albert Jacquard (HEAJ) was born on the 15th of September 1995 from the merger between the Institut d’Enseignement Superieur Pedagogique de la Communaute francaise in Namur (ESPENA) and the Institut d’Enseignement Superieur Economique de la Communaute francaise in Tamines (IESET) in compliance with the Decree of 8/5/1995 establishing the general organisation of higher education in University Colleges.

In September 2000, the Haute Ecole Albert Jacquard opened the Bachelor’s Degree in Computer graphics, the first specialised programme in that field in Belgium. The HEAJ grew thus with a third department, the technical department. In 2012-2013, an Honours year in video games was born in collaboration with the University of Namur.

Finally, at the start of 2012-2013 school year, a fourth department was added: the paramedics department, Enseignement Superieur Paramedical de Namur (ESPAN).

This department has been created following the decision of the French Community to open a new Bachelor’s Degree in Psycho-motility. This new programme is organised as a Joint Degree with the Haute Ecole de la Province de Namur (HEPN).

Our Programmes are Economics, Computer Graphics, Paramedics, Education. The “Hautes Écoles” are in charge of training half of the higher education students in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation. Thanks to their activities in applied research, which are numerous, exciting and still very little known, they ensure the high-quality level of their teaching and participate actively in the socio-economic regional development.

Current research projects at HEAJ are BEE – Builders of Educative Ecosystem. The BEE research project focuses on teaching staff support. It aims at the development of digital learning ecosystems that are adapted to higher education. These ecosystems have the following goals, support students in their learning processes, allow a more specific support from teachers during practical learning stages.

BEE makes the most of inductive methodologies and of the wide range of digital tools that are available nowadays. All this for the purpose of an optimal use and fully in line with the learning context of higher education students.

The HEAJ supports entrepreneurship, supervises and encourages student entrepreneurs who want to carry out their projects. This is what being a responsible school means. We at HEAJ think that a student’s project, of whatever kind, deserves to be supported. Thanks to our status of entrepreneurial school, we offer different services to students with an entrepreneurial project.
