Hewaheta Central College

Hewaheta Central College proudly stands on a hill in the Thalathouya town in the Pathahewaheta Divisional Secretariat Division in kandy the historical capital of the upcountry.

The school was founded in 1920 as a Bilingual school on a land with an extent of 7.5 acres made up of 5 acres and 2.5 acres lots donated by patriotic Mr.W.M Weerakoon Banda and the planter K.M Narayana Sami respectively. The school was commenced with eighty nine students and eight teachers.

The system of central schools were initiated by Dr. C.W.W kannangara , the father of free Education offer the Free Education Bill was approved in 1945. Hewaheta Central College is one of the schools established under the second stage.

The School became 1AB category school with the implementation of the science stream in 1967. Introduction of the Technological faculty is the 4th turning point in the field of formal Education in Srilanka. Hewaheta central college too was fortunate enough to be confirmed as 1 AB category with the initiation of the new Technological stream on the 15th July 2015.

The junior secondary classes from grade 6-11 are conducted in the Sinhala medium and Bilingual medium while the Senior Secondary Education is imparted with the Science, Arts, Commerce and the Technological streams. Further supporting the 13 years continuous Education; vocational education stream is also implemented from 2017.

The great intellectuals spreading the fame in the world as well as in our mother land, have been the valuable resources produced with the effort of our, school. Apart from this our school has succeeded in getting so many achievements in sports.
