New Year’s Day
The first day of the Gregorian Calendar (January 1st) is a public holiday in Ho Chi Minh
Tet Eve / Tet Holiday / Tet Nguyen Dan
Also called the Feast of the First Morning of the First Day, Tết Nguyên Đán is celebrated in Ho Chi Minh with people worshipping their ancestors and visiting their families.
The holiday consists of three parts – the Tất Niên (penultimate New Year’s Eve), Giao Thừa (New Year’s Eve), and Tân Niên (the New Year). The Tet eve involves preparation before the holiday.
Hung Kings Temple Festival
Celebrated every 10th year in the third lunar month, this festival honors the Hung Kings. The celebration is held with a procession of government leaders and offering prayers to ancestors.
Reunification Day
This holiday marks the anniversary of liberating the South of Vietnam. This is the day when Viet Cong and North Vietnamese troops have captured Saigon on April 30, 1975, marking the end of the Vietnam War.
International Labor Day
Often tied together with the Reunification Day holiday, this holiday celebrates laborers’ rights.
National Day
National Day in Ho Chi Minh is celebrated every September 2nd. This holiday marks President Hồ Chí Minh’s declaration of independence in Hanoi on September 2, 1945.
