The Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics (MIEM) was incorporated into the HSE structure on December 30, 2011 as a subdivision specializing in educating highly qualified engineers and scientists. MIEM’s mission is to acquire fundamental knowledge and develop applied technologies in the electronics, engineering and aerospace industries.
Since its founding in 1962, MIEM has been one of the leading Russian technical universities conducting top-level research in applied mathematics, physics, electronics, IT and robotics. Today, MIEM trains specialists to work in high-tech industries by providing a full-cycle higher education through its undergraduate, Master’s and doctoral programmes. Project-oriented educational programmes provide our students with the opportunity to participate in professional teams at MIEM’s partner organizations, which include the largest scientific and industry corporations, institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) and IT-companies: S.P. Korolev Rocket and Space Corporation Energia, Khrunichev State Research and Production Space Centre, Lavochkin Research and Production Association, Vega Radio Engineering Corporation, Gazprom Space Systems, All-Russian Research Institute for Optical and Physical Measurements Federal State Unitary Enterprise (VNIIOFI), Kapitza Institute for Physical Problems RAS, RAS Computing Centre, RAS Institute of Space Research, Centre for Scientific Research in Chernogolovka, JSC ЕС-leasing, I-Teco Company, and InterTrust Company. Authorized centres of leading software companies such as IBM, Mentor Graphics, Autodesk, Motorola, QNAP and ZyXel are based at the Institute.
MIEM is organized into three schools (School of Applied Mathematics, School of Computer Engineering, School of Electronic Engineering), 7 joint departments and 6 research laboratories. It has approximately 200 faculty members and more than 1,500 undergraduate and graduate students. Faculty members include 9 Academicans and Corresponding Members of the Russian Academy of Sciences and 34 Russian State Prize Laureates. MIEM offers undergraduate programmes in:
Current research and education areas include mathematical and computer simulation, control systems and information processing, cybersecurity and cryptology, computational systems and networks, 3D-visualization and computer graphics technologies, intelligent control systems and robotics, Big Data, electronics and nanoelectronics, condensed matter physics, information and communication devices and communication systems. MIEM is regularly one of the six leading technical universities in Russia in university rankings by admission quality. A study carried out in 2015 by the SuperJob recruitment agency and the Russian Ministry of Education and Science showed that the average monthly salary for MIEM graduates one year after the graduation is 97,000 roubles.MIEM graduates are in demand and work at large international companies, such as Microsoft, Intel, IBM, АМD Boeing, and Airbus, in the defense industry and at research centres, in RAS institutes and leading Russian ICT companies, such as Yandex, Kaspersky Lab, I-Teco, and others.
