At Hugh Myddelton Primary School we believe in laying the foundations on which children can build their futures. We aim to capture and nurture it, enabling our children to grow into confident, independent and successful individuals.
Our curriculum aspires to equip children with the knowledge, understanding and basic skills they will need as they continue their learning journey through primary education and beyond. We value the parallel development of our children’s personal, social and academic skills, firmly believing that these are fundamental to them achieving success in all aspects of their future lives as citizens in modern Britain.
We aim to provide a creative and stimulating learning environment within which we expect our learners to aim for and achieve the highest possible standards in all they do. We also count on the full support of parents and carers. Hugh Myddelton aspires to be a happy, vibrant and successful school community where everyone tries their very best.
At Hugh Myddelton Primary School, the Early Years consists of a 2 year old Nursery, a Nursery for 3 and 4 year olds and two Reception classes. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum
We want all of our children to be independent and inquisitive learners. We place great emphasis on supporting children to develop their confidence and self-esteem and to realise their full potential. Children are encouraged to explore and investigate, to question and to develop their own ideas.
Learning should be fun and learning through play is at the heart of the EYFS. We provide a safe, stimulating and inviting environment where children can experience a wide range of activities and learning opportunities both inside and out.
We are committed to giving our children the best possible start to their school life. We work in partnership with parents, carers and families to ensure their well-being now and success in the future.
The original Hugh Myddelton School was founded a short distance away. The current school was designed by architect Julian Sofaer, built in 1964 and opened shortly after its completion. A state-of-the-art extension was finished in 2009 and opened by former pupil, Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens).
Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) is a key way that schools can ensure that pupils are receiving a wide and varied curriculum that is relevant to the lives they live today. At Hugh Myddelton, we like to offer all children a fully and enriched learning experience. Children become well-equipped and are more prepared because they have acquired the skills and attributes needed to help them develop, stay healthy and safe, and prepare them for life and work in today’s modern society. PSHE helps pupils to achieve their academic potential and become rounded citizens. We have a culture at Hugh Myddelton that allows everyone to enjoy the challenge and the adventure of learning. Children use PSHE in every lesson every day, and begin to understand the importance of the subject, how it affects them academically and where they fit in the school community.
We have a broad and balanced curriculum which provides opportunities for effective SMSC development. Within school, pupils are actively encouraged to make choices, knowing that they are in a safe and supportive environment. As a school we educate and provide boundaries for our pupils to make choices safely, through the provision of a safe environment and an empowering education.
At the heart of our whole school ethos is a commitment to the 3 'Bs' - Be Ready, Be Respectful, Be Safe– a set of core values that we believe contribute to individuals being able to live happy and successful lives within the communities to which they belong. Our values are taught through assemblies and PSHE sessions and form a key part of our daily dialogue across school.
Our core value of Respect ensures tolerance of those who have different faiths and beliefs. Hugh Myddelton Primary School enhances pupils understanding of different faiths and beliefs through religious education studies; PSHE work; welcoming visitors from other schools, partnership with an International School and enjoying a depth of study during themed weeks.
