Public holidays in Indonesia are regulated by the government. Apart from public holidays, there are also “libur bersama” or “cuti bersama”, or joint holidays declared by the government. Similar rules apply for holidays that fall on the weekend, which will be moved to another day.
Indonesia is a predominantly Muslim state. This is why most public holidays consist of Islamic holidays such as Ramadan, Eid Al-Adha, and Eid Al-Fitr. Here’s a complete list of public holidays in Indonesia:

Galungan dan Kuningan

The Lantern Festival is a Chinese festival that falls on the fifteenth day of the first month of the Chinese calendar (February or March).
Kartini Day
This holiday commemorates the birthday of Raden Ayu Kartini. She was an Indonesian national heroine who hailed from Java, Indonesia. She has pushed for women’s right to education.
National Education Day
The Indonesian National Education Day is celebrated on the 2nd of May. It commemorates Ki Hajar Dewantara, the founder of the Taman Siswa education system.
National Awakening Day
Also known as the Kebangkitan Nasional Indonesia, the Indonesian National Awakening Day is a term for the time when the people from different parts of the archipelago began to develop a national consciousness as Indonesians.
National Batik Day
Batik Day is a holiday celebrating the traditional clothing of Indonesia. The holiday falls in October, when UNESCO recognized batik as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2009.
Heroes Day
This holiday commemorates the Battle of Surabaya in 1945.
