On behalf of our School community, welcome to the Ipswich Junior Grammar. Ipswich Junior Grammar School is south-east Queensland’s only co-educational Grammar primary school. We are strong believers in the virtues of co-education in the formative years, when children are developing critical life skills that will support them emotionally, physically and socially across their entire lives. Our mission is to excel at providing each boy and girl with a positive, personalised, holistic education in a safe, first-class learning environment.

For more than two decades, Junior Grammar has offered boys and girls exceptional learning experiences with dedicated, caring teachers. Junior Grammar parents see us as a family-friendly, high performing and well-resourced School that provides a holistic education with a strong focus on academic excellence and pastoral care. The attention given to the individual learning and emotional needs of our boys and girls sets us apart from other schools.

Our curriculum is a balance of traditional and modern subjects combined with contemporary teaching and learning practices. We are innovative, whilst upholding uncompromising standards in literacy and numeracy, with every child exposed to a balanced curriculum that encourages higher-order thinking and curiosity. Our high standard of behaviour and positive reinforcement encourages our boys and girls to work hard in a safe and nurturing environment. Ipswich Junior Grammar School is an inspiring and vibrant school with a welcoming, close-knit community.

Our Vision Ipswich Junior Grammar School nurtures young learners to become future leaders. Our Mission Shaped by our proud history and traditions and focussed on academic excellence, our School provides a personalised, holistic education by expert staff in engaging learning environments. Values The Ipswich Junior Grammar School core values are at the heart of our community. Our School and students seek to promote them in everything we do. Junior Grammar’s five values foster excellence, integrity, resilience and responsibility. They influence our boys’ and girls’ self-worth, their behaviour and the way they interact with their peers and the wider community. With strong moral and ethical values, Junior Grammar students develop into responsible, capable, global citizens who create their own opportunities for higher learning, leadership and life.

Ipswich Junior Grammar School students love to learn. Our boys and girls discover their world with lessons and resources that develop their ability to think creatively and problem solve and nurture their independence and communication skills. We offer an all-round, academically rigorous but fun-filled curriculum. Our class sizes are smaller to ensure your child receives more attention, in every lesson, every day. Enthusiastic teachers care about the individual needs and interests of their students.

Each of our boys and girls has an Individual Academic Learning Plan, tailored to their specific needs and goals. Ongoing monitoring of your child’s progress enables early identification of learning difficulties, gifted and talented behaviour, strengths and areas for improvement. Our three-separate, but linked, Centres offer a safe, smaller space for your child to learn, gain confidence and transition smoothly from year to year while enjoying the state-of-the-art facilities and resources of our wider School campus.

Our purpose-built Mavis Parkinson Junior School is home to our boys and girls from Years 2 to 6, the Junior Grammar Administration Centre, our comprehensive Angela Geertsma Junior Library and the Bright Sparks Workshop. In Junior School our boys and girls continue to thrive in an inspiring community guided by enthusiastic, highly experienced teachers who love what they do. Junior Grammar’s rigorous academic curriculum continues to focus on building numeracy and literacy skills. It also caters to a wide range of learning styles and interests including:
  • E-STEAM (Entrepreneurship, Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics) lessons from Prep to Year 6
  • Higher Order Thinking Strategies based on the Dimensions of Learning Framework
  • Designated problem solving lessons from Year 2 to Year 6
  • Specialist lessons taught by specialist teachers in specialist classrooms for Art, Drama, Music, Dance, Languages, Physical Education and Library
  • Digital Technology
Opportunities for learning support and extension are available both in and out of the classroom. An addition, our instrumental program sees every child in Years 3 to 6 learn a different instrument (provided by the School) each year, across keyboard, strings, brass and woodwind. Each of our spacious classrooms has its own wet area and mini computer laboratory with iPads and laptops for classroom use. The School also facilitates a 1:1 laptop program from Year 4. All rooms are air-conditioned, have interactive whiteboards and look out over the treetops of our Junior School rainforest. Our boys and girls learn and adopt the Junior Grammar values. They are encouraged to follow School and classroom rules through a reward and House points system that is focused on positive reinforcement and the satisfaction of good behaviour and a job well done.
